t1 – Alice’s Restaurant 19:01

Original Seeder Notes:
This is from my own collection. I recorded this on a reel deck from the radio one afternoon in 1966 during the WBAI Spring Fundraiser. I’m not sure of the exact date. I have to find my original notes from the
reel, but I’m sure it’s from 1966. It’s obvious that no one had ever heard this before by the reaction from those in the studio at the tiome of the broadcast.

I made the cassette copy some time ago. Some day I’ll re-transfer from the reel. There are a few minor level adjustments at the very beginning of the song.

This copy is considerably cleaner than most I’ve heard from this broadcast.

Original Notes by Hank R. :
This is an amazing early performance sourced from a mono PA recording. Arlo introduces “Alice’s Restaurant” as “Alice… Part 2,” but it’s essentially the version that we’ve all come to know and
love… Essential listening! Approx. 40m. Recommended!

This is the original source Zeppelin Digital used for their speed corrected release, it would seem to be the only transfer which has ever been circulated. I have no idea what software ZD used for their speed correction but this actually sounds a bit better and looks more solid in spectral as well. It’s about time this historical show got upgraded after circulating for so many years. It had a few minor issues besides the slow speed which I’ve corrected to the best of my abilities without using additional processing. The recording is quite good and very listenable in my opinion but tends to overload and distort when the band is hitting on all cilinders. The levels fluctuate occasionally as well but that’s only natural, considering the recording has been made more than 42 years ago. Thanks to the taper and the people who circulated this source originally.
