Note from seeder: This is simply the version of 3/18/77 that wasavailable at archive.org in the good old days (http://db.etree.org/shninfo_detail.php?shnid=254) with the exception being that d2t1 through d2t3 are the Scott Clugston patched versions as noted above. I had to renumber the disc two tracks from Samson
through Estimated because in shnid=254 the tuning (d2t1) was not there.
Thus I created a new MD5 file for d2. Enjoy!

Flac encoding notes:
All processing with Trader’s Little Helper
Shn – st5 generated
Shn > Flac ( level 8 )
Flac – st5 generated and matched to Shn st5

Tagging notes:
Show information is embedded within the header of each flac file. It will display on any player capable of directly playing flac files. If converted to wav during processing, all tags will be stripped, however audio data will remain unaffected. If you must transcode to a lossy format, do so directly Flac > Lossy.
Use st5 to validate audio integrity.
Md5 values will change if tagging is altered.

Notes from Mat:

The Grateful Dead are very close to my favorite band and 1977 is likely my favorite year for them. This year does not have quite the fierceness of their late 60s stuff nor quite the improvisational swing they had in 1972 but they are still playing like warrior poets and it has the benefit of having more of my favorite songs. Thanks go out to Raoul for providing me with some of the gaps in my 1977 collection and for providing me with some additional source material.

Deadheads are notorious perfectionists and as such I’ll be presenting multiple sources on some of the shows throughout this year. I won’t be making comments on which versions are “best” so you’ll have to decide for yourself. I would say that if you are new to the dead you should probably go with soundboard sources and you might wait until I post the shows from May as they are all extraordinary.

Anyways, enjoy!

  1. I always loved the sound of this show. Super swwet. Great terrapin, and please correct me if Im wrong, but this may be the first Scarlet>Fire jam the dead ever played. Again, I may be wrong on that fact, but Im not wrong on the fact that this show has some super sweet jams. Thanks for posting. The world need to hear jamming like this
