Review:
An excellent Japanese cd release of this 1980 Toronto soundboard recording.
This show has been released on a few other titles over the years.
It represents some of the best quality available from the early ’80s gospel tour,
and is an absolute must for anyone interested in the gospel material.
This package is well done with the striking ‘Rex Features’ photo of Dylan in heavy mascara on the front,
and a classy ‘Retna Pictures’ concert shot on the back.
The unique title, and straight-forward typeset add to the overall aesthetic appeal.

  1. Mat, you are filling up an under represented period in my lossless collection with these early 80 shows. This is the show which was prof filmed and recorded. Great stuff.

Another one i thought i had in lossless. I have the unrel live album ‘Rock Solid’ which was recorded at the same venue the day before

    keep ’em coming!

    • Yea, someone somewhere posted a couple of shows from 1980. I grabbed those then thought it would be fun to post most of the stuff I have from then. Its such a unique time in the history of Dylan and you don’t see it posted all that often.

I’ll have a few more shows from here posting in a week or so.

  2. Oh man, thanks for these. I think this might actually be fave Dylan boot: say what you will about the message, I think his gospel shows have an energy his live sets hadn’t had in years. Thanks again!

  3. I love these gospel shows from Dylan (79-80). Coverdown Breakthrough, great song. I agree with DylanDave, get the 4/19/80 show too, only 8 songs but perfect quality.

  4. Well i must admit i found Dylan`s Christian period a bit perplexing but at the time Slowtrain was such a superb album and the follow up was strong as well.

  5. Mat,

I’ll cough up the unrel live album if you don’t see it readily available. If you can find any more of the ’74 shows would be super cool, especially if they are from the LK series (can’t go wrong with these), eg first night in Chicago 3 jan – if you get to a point where the well has gone dry, let me know and i’ll see which gaps in the tour i can fill.

For ref the reason the 19th is A+ compared to a solid A- for this night is that this is a SBD, 19th is a full mixdown from multi-track

    • I do not have the 19th so please do send it my way when you have a chance.

I have quite a few more 74 shows as well. I’ll upload the stuff from 02/14 that didn’t make it onto the Before the Flood album tonight. My uploads are way ahead of my posting schedule though so it will be another week or so before it makes its way here.

  6. Thank you for the width of Dylan shows posted. I see that some time ago you posted 1979 show ‘Contract with the Lord’. If you are able to repost sometime this would be very much appreciated.

  7. Mat, I’ve left you another little surprise package – sorry ’bout the number of links, not gonna tell what it is – just trust me on this one
