  1. Thank you SO much for this… I read about this boot years ago in a Clinton Heylin book about boots, and have always wanted to hear it. Thanks for sharing, Mat – really appreciate your blog.

  2. Interestingly it’s actually these close-miked stage AUD recordings that Van used for the official release. Some kind of 12″ CD single EP or somesuch. Apart from Bob utilising some EX qual AUD recordings from the 2000 tour I can’t think of another instance where an artist did such. Of course there are prob lots of instances of it being done retrospectively for box sets or similar. Can’t really think of an example right now however.

I can remember having some interesting conversations with Mr Heylin in various bars prior to Bob concerts back in the day. Don’t recall our views on ‘must have’ Bob concerts or song performances being closely aligned however. Maybe this is the reason I have never really paid much attention to his books, or maybe it was his disparaging view of Bob’s performances in ’74, with which I flatly disagree! No doubting however that he has made a long and successful career on tha back of this stuff, so I guess others have a more complimentary view. Also no doubt that this is a ‘must have’ boot.
