The 1974 PA tape collection upgrade, PA recording (compiled by lk), Source/lineage information: PA recording, best known sources, Lossless transmission from compiler; received as SHN files, There were sector boundary errors on disc 1, which I, fixed with shntool. The SHN files included here are the, fixed files; the MD5 file corresponds to these files, so it is not the same as the original MD5.

excellent sound; has heavy tv band and one at 8k on d1t13; this is same as LB-0619 fixing track gaps; in comparison to bootleg Poet and the Players that has a warmer sound;

(a bittorrent from 02/09 has flac fingerprint same as this shntool wav hash on d1t2; description is generic with “(evening) (line)” with filenames like “MSG 31 Jan 74 E-1\D1\Track02.flac” )

From LK:
The main thing to note is that this set sorts out the mess that the bootleggers have made of the PA tracks. None of the annotations of the PA sources are accurate, and indeed none of them are even complete. I refer to “Before and After the Flood‟, “Bittersweet”, “Paint the Daytime Black”, Poet and the Players” etc. The quality of these tracks is better than any of the bootlegs as well (imho), as they are not derived from bootlegs.

LosslessBob entry: LB-2697.very good sound [B-]; not a lot above 8k. small gaps between tracks

Fix of LB-2697: Wave Repair 4.9.3 to remove leading/trailing digital silences and index gaps between all tracks. Instances [p-] reported by DFF are music related [drum beats etc] > FLAC, sector align

Waits has dubbed his summer 2008 tour “Glitter and Doom,” a trek through the lower half of the U.S. he described as “PEHDTSCKJMBA” (pronounced “pess-kuh-JUM-buh), an acronym for each of the tour’s stops: Phoenix, El Paso, Houston, Dallas, Tulsa, St. Louis, Columbus, Knoxville, Jacksonville, Mobile, Birmingham and Atlanta.

REVIEW: Tom Waits

By Jennifer Chancellor
World Scene Writer

It was a carnival-like revival of the surreal on the historic Brady Theater stage on Wednesday night at the Brady Theater, and Tom Waits was its swarthy-voiced ringleader.

The storied singer and spoken-word performer maneuvered between piano, guitar and maracas, and his band belted out tunes on clarinet, bass clarinet, doghouse bass, drums, keyboards, hand drums and more.

For this show, however, Waits’ trademark granulated voice was the ultimate instrument, from rumbling growls to falsettos and even beatboxing.

During Rain Dogs, he pulled his leg up and arms out, into a crane position and clapped his hands.

As he raven-cawed out the lyrics, We sail tonight for Singapore, the vivid blue, white, red and yellow spotlights blinked and burned against the crushed red velvet curtains behind him.

The near-capacity audience was set adrift into Waits intricate aural hallucination.

In between songs, he’d croak out salty monologues about the sound of corn growing to how sensitive eels are to alcohol.

Several times, he even gently shushed the amorous crowd, which often erupted into yells and chants for their favorite songs while he segued through his set after all, it was Waits first time to perform in Tulsa. Ever.

It was also his first performance in the Sooner state since 1974, when he opened for Frank Zappa in Oklahoma City.
As if drunkenly running from a hell hound on his heels, he staggered into Goin’ Out West, claiming he had a devil on a leash.

Throughout the set, fog roiled forth in bursts as he stomped his feet on the stage. Sweat streaked his cheeks like tears and saturated his three-piece gray suit.He never faltered.

The two-plus hour set was as eclectic as his decades-long career, as he barked out poetry to tunes like Lucinda, November, Black Market Baby, Innocent When You Dream, Cemetery Polka, Come on Up to the House, Rain Dogs and Lie to Me.

During the encore, he donned a mirrored bowler hat and spun like a disco ball.

So put a candle in the window and a kiss upon his lips,î he sang along to his encore tune Time.

I made a golden promise, that we would never part. I gave my love a locket, and then I broke her heart.

As the dish outside the window fills with rain / Just like a stranger with the weeds in your heart / And pay the fiddler off till I come back again.

Jay’s Notes:

Digitally Remastered using a custom built, Dual-DAW, nicknamed Bertha,
by jashley@deadacated.com. Completed January 6, 2006.

Frequency analysis revealed a strange upward slope from around 12khz out
beyond 22khz. This is why the high end is so bright and tinny sounding.
It’s not known what caused this, though, it is not very common to see this
on a master reel source. Perhaps the recorder had an extended range setting
that was set improperly or possibly recorded with dolby and played back
without dolby. In any case, the curve was corrected, making for a more
natural sounding high end.

The mix is all over the place, sometimes perfect and sometimes overdriven
and badly distorted. Together with the cuts, somebody must have been a bit
too Stoned. And at the Catholic Center no less…the shame. LOL!

From the original uploader:

This compilation starts at the Newport Folk Fest on August 8 2004, only because that was the first show with the new lineup of the band that I was fortunate enough to attend and tape.

The North American tour didn’t start proper until September 14 in Columbia, Mo. and it ended in Salt Lake City on November 22, 2004. Salt Lake City is the only show not represented in this compilation because a recording had not surfaced by the time the comp. was ready for release. Every song Wilco played on this tour is included in this comp with the exception of “Remember the Mountain Bed,” because it was only played in SLC.

Discs one and two are compiled in order resembling an average show’s set list during the tour; the songs are also in chronological order.

Disc three is a collection of tour set list rarities.

The fourth disc includes cover songs the band played in NYC during the their New Years Eve show at Madison Square Garden. The songs played include covers of Judas Priest and Captain and Teneal. The remainder of the disc are TV performances collected during the tour.

I have included artwork that I created to fit a single four disc jewel, or two two disc jewel cases. I also include a tour chart that has every song performed on this tour, and the order in which the songs were played, starting with Columbia, Mo and ending with SLC.

Enjoy!
