“Have you ever wondered why?
There’s a rainbow in the sky?
It’s all the tears
That God has been crying
And it leaves the world
And it leaves the world
With a rainbow for a crown”

…… From Book Faded Brown

I found this in The Band website guestbook from 1999 (Note: Tony’s setlist differs from the one I was sent with this disc. I don’t know if he wrote these down in any order but if someone can confirm the setlist order it would be greatly appreciated) There are gaps in between so it is very hard to tell.

Great Danko Show at Clearwater in Massapequa, NY. Rickís voice was right on. Rick, The Professor and Billy Read (on drums) gave it full power last night. The opening act was The Last Hombres (the club ownerís band) they did their own music and very well. Rick was in true form singing, laughing and joking around all night. The show lasted 1 hour and 45 minutes and they got stronger as the night went on. Book Faded Brown, This Wheels on Fire, Blind Willie McTell, Sip the Wine, Let the four Winds Blow, Twilight, It Makes on Difference, Next Time you See Me, Long Black Veil, Crazy Mama, Stage Fright, The Weight, Shape Iím In (with The Last Hombres), CC Rider (with The Last Hombres) ……….Tony LoBue

Notes: Nice soundboard of Rick Danko with an additional guest musician (can anyone help with this?) from a small club in Chicago. I’ve always liked this show a lot; the setlist is great and Danko gives the most soulful “Long Black Veil” I’ve heard. The mix is pretty raw, but the overall sound is very nice.

The taper managed to convince Danko into allowing him to tape with the help of some “herbs”. . . this may explain Rick’s odd mood throughout the show as well as the very abrupt end — he literally leaves the stage in the end of a verse and the puzzled crowd stood around for awhile wondering if he was finished.

For some reason, the levels were lower on side B of the master tape, which caused the hiss to be greater on tracks 12-20 upon normalization.

A very mellow show, but really enjoyable. I got this while I was in college, and used to listen to it while studying a lot.

This is one of my favorite Rick Danko solo shows — notable for a very rare solo performance of “Sip The Wine.” I’m always amazed at how easily Rick connected with his audience. I never did get to see him perform live which is why I treasure each and every one of these recordings.

The “guest musician” playing with Rick is his long-time “sidekick” Sredni Vollmer — a truly amazing musician. Here’s what Carol Caffin wrote about Sredni and Rick on her Rick Danko site:

There are some cuts here. Beside that, this is a great recording and well mixed and very enjoyable show.
with Rick’s friend Aaron Louis Hurwitz (Professor Hurwitz)

I do have a question for you Rick Danko fans.
At the beginning of Track 08, which is titled “One More Shot”.
Why does he call it “Unfaithful Servant”?? when that song is played as Track 10.
Is he just joking?

Can anyone tell me the titles to Track 11 and 12.

Recording notes:
Track 03 has a brief spot of static @ the 35 second mark,
caused from a dirty pot, from something on stage or the mixing board. This is not diginoise.
Track 07 has a quick tape flip at the 45 second mark.
Track 11 has a quick cut @ 1:38 min mark, and then briefly cuts again @ 2:48.
Track 13 has a tape flip @ 4:30 min (end of song is cut)
Track 14 cuts in

As always thanks to Nellie at Expecting Rain for this compilation.

Nellie always includes an enormous amounts of excellent notes with these compilations. I usually trim them down considerably so that my posts aren’t enormous. I did the same here, but do to the nature of the Rolling Thunder Review with its wide variety of people on stage the notes are still a little unwieldy. I hope they still make sense. But if not you still wanna get this comp. – Mat

RTR Part 2 is very different to RTR Part 1. The music is tougher, heavier, edgier. At times it borders on hard rock.
There is way more to RTR 2 than the official Columbia Hard Rain live album.

There is a great breadth & depth of material here.
Bob was dealing with all sorts of personal demons at the time but it seems to just fuel the fire.
Not for the faint-hearted – it is a very bumpy ride but well worth it.

Lies, damn lies & statistics:

All the songs performed by Dylan & The Rolling Thunder Revue on tour in 1975
15 of a total of 25 concerts represented here, plus six rehearsals & one birthday party.
129 tracks.
