  1. I’ve been a lover of Shane and The Pogues since Rum, Sodomy And The Lash and was lucky enough to have seen them many times in their heyday when they were a sensational live band, including in towns they regarded as home turf. His death hit me hard. It was almost a state funeral in Ireland. There were some other gorgeous musical performances at the funeral – Nick Cave doing Rainy Night…, Cait singing I’m A Man… and the rest of The Pogues performing The Parting Glass as a final, moving, farewell. But one curious thing about that clip. The blonde woman beyond Glen Hansard is Cait, the original bassist of the band and the woman who originally sang the female part of Fairtytale before she left. It’s a pity she wasn’t up there for Fairytale or The Parting Glass.

    • That is interesting. I’m a pretty casual fan of The Pogues. I recognize their brilliance but I just haven’t spent enough time with them to be a super fan. MacGowan was a huge talent.
