I’ve Got You In My Soul
Go On and Cry
Neil Young: Guitar
Ricky “I’m Rick James, Bitch” Matthews: Vocals
Bruce Palmer: Bass
Rickman Mason: Drums
John Taylor?: Rhythm Guitar
This is a very interesting recording. It is one of Neil Young’s earliest bands and features Rick James (yes that Rick James on vocals.) They were signed to Motown Records and what we have here is the beginnings of what would have been their first record, but Rick James got busted for draft dodging and the record got shelved.
Fantastic! Thanks so much. I have been looking for these tracks forever. FYI, the versions of “It’s My Time” and “Go On and Cry” that were released in 2006 on the “Complete Motown Singles Vol. 6: 1966” box set sound somewhat differently-mixed than these versions, though they must be derived from the same recordings.
Oooh oooh, would dearly love a re-up. Any possibility? Thanks for considering it!
I did an article in record collector in march which tells the whole story

ps I also have from alt rel series – an alt ver of vol 4 (1996-03-21), 22 May (Colosseum – Musique Arcane), 4 June, 9 June (alt to v 16)
I make that 9 out of 16 (plus 2 alt versions) in total. It would be really great to finish this series off. There are 7 more to find. Dates 1996-04-10 to 1996-06-08 inclusive
Can anyone fill in any of the gaps? Of course i’ll happily contribute what i have

Thanks so much! Have been looking for this since reading James’ autobiography, “Glow”. Which, by the way I highly recommend. Like sitting down with a crazy version of ‘Forrest Gump’!
