Is it the FLAC or MP3 missing?

Hi there,
A supplement to Barrie’s comment:
It is correct that the tracks for disc 1 is not included on Mat’s description above, but I downloaded the FLAC version, and in my download all 12 discs were included, and all text files with tracklists were also there. But somehow disc 7 & 8 were included twice, and artwork for disc 3 + 4 was missing. And in both download of disc 8, track no. 5 “Only Love Can Break Your Heart” was missing.
Not a great problem, though. I had the mp3 version already and converted disc 8 track 5 to FLAC. Artwork for disc 3 + 4 was also in the mp3 version I had and can probably be found somewhere on the net also.
Again, thanks for this excellent post.

Thank you Kim. I have updated the description so hopefully it is now correct. Can you tell me what parts of the download include the duplicated disks 7&8? I’m hoping they are nicely fitted into a single download part so I can just delete it and all will be well.
I just double checked and my original files do not have disc 8, track 5. If you would like to provide a link to your MP3 (please don’t share the upconverted FLAC) I’m sure many here would appreciate it.

Hi Mat.
I’m afraid that I can’t tell which part of the download included the duplicated disks 7 & 8. After the download I created 12 folders (one for each disc) and put all the unpacked files into their correct folders. After that was completed I simply deleted the download parts. Sorry.
Of course I would like to help you and others with the missing track, but I simply don’t know how to provide a link to it. I have the mp3-file (320 kbps) to disc 8, track no. 5 “Only Love Can Break Your Heart” in my computer. It is only 7,48 MB, so perhaps I could send it to you inclosed in an e-mail, so you could post it on your blog for people to download. If that is OK with you, I just need an e-mail address from you to send it to, and I’ll do it as soon as possible.

I downloaded and unpacked the lossless files.
They needed a minor bit of massaging and I came up with 169 tracks over 12 discs.
The correct tracklist text files are included in the unpacked files.
I have not played each track yet so I cannot vouch track title accuracy.
I noticed there was 1 track less than the text files stated.
I thought it was Powderfinger but won’t know until I have a listen.
Thanks again for the post.

Artwork for disc 3+4 was missing in my download.
Dylandave’s post inspired me to try Zippyshare, so if others have experienced the same problem with the artwork, here are some links. Hope it works.

Happy to help Kim. For future ref I would never recommend ‘upscaling’ from lossy formats such as mp3 to lossless such as flac or wav. This is because any player or program (‘app’ horrid term) which can play or burn from FLAC will also work for mp3. Converting ‘up’ (always to wav) can be useful to edit, repair or trim a faulty file. Similarly, converting a faulty flac (CRC errors etc) to WAV using ‘Traders Little Helper by selecting ‘decode thru errors’ option can be helpful. The only time that mp3 to WAV is generally considered the best option is in ‘capturing’ a lossy stream such as a web stream in real time. Basically the less re-coding the better and ‘upscaling’ always degrades sound quality relative to the orig mp3 file.
If you get into zippyshare (and if you use windows) try the zippyuploader program. Standalone (no install reqd), works well and will automatically split your archive into the required 200mb chunks when necessary.

Ok I think I’ve fixed everything. I deleted the files with the extra FLACs in them. I added in the missing MP3 and reuploaded the whole MP3 set. For the missing FLAC I uploaded it by itself and it is now Part 4 of the FLAC set.
