Had this for a while, a fine example of Mid Valley’s fab Clapton output. Basically as with Crystal Cat for Dylan boots, for Eric in 99.5% of cases the MVR version is the one to have.
Ever seen the film of this tour? whole touring party travelling from gig tio gig on a private train, interesting stuff.
Eric was really good in ’78 and a Muddy set too, can;t go wrong with this one
I’ve not seen that video. I’m honestly not much for Clapton. Obviously he’s a talented guy but most of his stuff just doesn’t click with me. This show has some nice stuff though.
I initially got into Eric’s stuff due to the 60s blues stuff and I was really picky asabout the rest. Basically over the years he has won me over and now i’ve got a big collection. It’s partly due to him never hiding and consistently putting superb musicians on 2nd guitar in his tour bands. It’s also hearing and taping the Blues Nights at RAH London in 90 and 91 on the radio (both really excellent, especially 90) with Buddy Guy et al – check out the fab boots guys. Also in ’96 I saw him in Hyde Park London, topping the bill after The Who and Dylan, and basically blowing everybody else away. There’s an official video of that Princes Trust performance.
Don’t get me wrong, dude is crazy awesome with a guitar and I do like some of his stuff, and all of the boots I’ve listened too (which admittedly isn’t very many) have been good, but for whatever reason haven’t hit me in just the right way to make me obsess over him.

This is so essential it should be given out in schools! A contender for best unofficial Clapton release ever!
I’ve been listening to (and lovin’) this MV classic for years now. SQ is superb, playin’ is great (’78 tour is SO underrated and underappreciated) and you get the Muddy set too!
