  1. Now, this is the REAL Grateful Goods! The boys (and gal) at the top of their game. Case in point: The fantastic 26 min. “Playing In The Band” – a deep improvisational trip of the kind they simply never made again after 1974. The jam soon gets funk-jazzy (including a short but rare snippet of Godchaux going bop), then at about the 14 min. mark goes into space, with the rhythm section pulling back and Garcia wailing on some wah-wah planet of his own, before entering a melodic jam that leads to the close. Absolutely great. Thank you for this gem Mat!

  2. Overshadowed by the 19th, 24th and 31st shows. This is a sweet SBD, playin does not disappoint, always like it as a first set closer. They were performing the best China>Riders that summer, this one was is no slouch.Billy sounds so jazzy, Jer in fine voice. this show is a keeper for sure.Roanoke is gorgeous i saw the Grateful Dead in 87′ there.
