Lineage: Master tape > CD > EAC > CoolEdit 2000 > minimal NR > Flac

LosslessBob entry: LB-2638. very good to excellent sound [B+]; almost nothing above 10k >

Fix of LB-2637: WAV > Wave Repair 4.9.3 to fix very minor index clicks between some tracks and remove leading/trailing digital silences. DFF flaws on begining disc 1 tracks 2,9 and 10 are mic bumps > FLAC, sector align

Source 2:

LB-2368

Lineage: <> Master tape > CD > EAC > CoolEdit 2000 > minimal NR > Flac. The 2nd Band set is from a different tape.

FFP matches Disc one of LosslessBob LB-2638 described as “very good sound [B]”. Some filesets circulated without The Band’s second set. As indicated on LB-2638, md5 and ffp for disc 2 have 10 tracks [minus The Band’s second set] and not 14 [with The Band’s second set]. This version iincludes The Band’s second set.

Fix: WAV > Wave Repair 4.9.3 removed leading/trailing digital silences begnining and end of CDs. Fixed minor index clicks on Disc 2. Flaws reported on DFF on d1t8 are mic bumps. Those reported for d2t5 is noise [possibly venue] > FLAC, sector align.

  1. Lovely, thanks Mat

This is one of the early and radically different ’74 shows I have banged on about (sorry all!) so many times in the past.

If you like your Bob edgy and intense check out these vocal performances. No shouting here like the later shows and the live album derived from them.

    Essential stuff IMO

Got any more Mat? always looking to upgrade these Philadelphia and Chicago shows in particular.

  2. Cheers Mat,

This is another tour which suffers from a severe lack of blog posts. You see the same few gigs posted over and over

Anything you can find would be much appreciated. I also have a few i can share, i’ll check my archives too and see if there’s anything i can up for the good people of the cafe!.

With this tour the ealier the date the better. I know that most of the SBDs come from the later feb shows, but in performance terms Jan is a clear winner.

  3. Rare performances of Nobody Cept You (Planet Waves outtake) and Tough Mama (Planet Waves) which were only performed 7 resp. 3 times ever, all in January 1974.

  4. Comments from a deleted repost:

    Mauro

    Thanks Mat.

Just get well, after that and ‘seasonal considerations’ this comes in a very poor third! Not often I say that about Bob, however I am sure in my own mind that new ‘source 3’ is the same srce as 2, almost certainly also from the same digitization of the same LK master. It is either exact the same or has some minor repairs to disc 2 (removal of digipops etc). Only a thorough listen will resolve this methinks

    according to jokerman
d1 has same wav and spectral view as evening from lk aud set LB-2638 while d2 is different and includes the band set which is not on that one; this has a heavy tv band on d2 while that one does not; this looks like it has more noise reduction and in comparison on d2, this has less hiss; this seemed a little less full and harsher at times but other times it was similar so not sure on that difference; this has less digital flaws; (did not listen to all of this)

I think your source 2 ‘LB-2638’ is in a different form to the one they are referring to here. Definitely an error or confusion in the labelling further upstream methinks

    I recommend sleep, it’s v healing, a trick i learned from a cat I once looked after

Thanks. I’ll try to look this over soon. Been in bed most of the last two days with a nasty head cold. I’m gonna take some good drugs in a bit and knock myself out. Hopefully I’ll feel better in a day or two and will have the brain power to sort this.

think you may have transposed the 6 and 3 for source 2. Think srce 2 is actually 2638 (eve from LK MASTER)
    http://www.losslessbob.wonderingwhattochoose.com/detail/LB-02638.html
9314 is listed as eve version ‘e’ lineage not specified, but as stated above seems to me to be identical to 2638, says disc 1 matches, may be some minor editing to disc 2 band set, but file sizes seem to match
    http://www.losslessbob.wonderingwhattochoose.com/detail/LB-09314.html
discrepanct seems to be that some file sets circulated minus 4 tracks on disc 2 (ie 10 not 14)

Mat, it’s worse than that – source 2 and source 3 appear to be the same files (same file sizes and same sound in comparison ) also compared 1st line of md5 info at end of info file. Also info in post for 2 & 3. If this info is correct for new source 3 then it clearly should be the early show since it refs source 1.
For quick comparison early show t5 is Tough Mama, late show is ‘I Don’t Believe You’

To top things off, Jokerman.org is not responding.

    Sorry, over to you

Source 1 is early (afternoon) show as listed above, new source 3 is eve show, as is source 2
