Note: Very low levels on the first part of the tape causing lots of hiss after the level adjustments. It gets better in the second part.

OldNeumanntapr Notes-
My friend John Lech recorded this Neil Young acoustic show. I met John when he patched into me at the Sunday, August 6th 1989, Cal Expo Grateful Dead show. John had his WM-D3 then but soon upgraded to an Aiwa HD-X1 DAT portable, and finally to a Panasonic SV-255. This was one of the first tapes I received from him in trade, and I believe it was one of the first stealth concerts that he recorded. Unfortunately, his levels were really high and the crowd noise is really loud! I’ve never seen another recording from this night. I remember that John said that the security was really tight at this show and he was lucky to get his gear inside. I just wish the crowd wouldn’t have been so vocal, and distorted. At one point Neil comments about the ‘Tree People’, the folks who watch the show from the trees that surround the Greek Theatre. He said that when he played the Greek 20 years before, in 1969, with Crosby Stills and Nash that people were in the trees then too. He said that some of those people today have big houses, and some are homeless, and that he was glad that he was still here. (Neil Diamond also commented on the ‘tree people’ at the Greek on his 1971 ‘Hot August Night’ LP.) David Crosby and Graham Nash join Neil for ‘Ohio’. Thanks to Dennis Orr for trying to work his post production magic on this one, but I think it might be ‘Too Far Gone’. 😉
