Bob Dylan – Hear That Rooster Crowin’, 1992

Bob Dylan
HEAR THAR ROOSTER CROWIN’ 1992 (Pink Panther)

Repost of a collection Nellie posted years ago!
As always: Warning for all flacistas:
This is the pure mp3-stuff, so beware!
For all others: Enjoy

1992 is a year that doesn’t get a lot of attention from critics and fans who find it all a bit of a mystery.
The story usually goes something like: the performances were poor (Waikiki), he made an electric record with Dave Bromberg but it didn’t work out, he then made an acoustic record in his garage in Malibu (Good As I Been Yo You), he partied at Sony’s expense Madison Square Garden with a lot of old friends (came in from the wilderness after 40 days & 40 nights (or was it 4000 days & 4000 nights),
and got divorced again (Carolyn Dennis).

Well, all that is sort of true but that ignores an almighty Never Ending Tour year of performances.

There are three tour legs;
Australia / New Zealand / US West Coast;
then European Summer Festivals,
then Canada / US East Coast.

There is some astonishing music from Bob in 1992, and some of the best of it is here.

Highlights: so many!! The Melbourne & Sydney residencies recorded by none other than Scandanavian orthopedic surgeon & rock historian Dr Michael Krogsgaard are astonishing, the European festivals are superb, & four days after Winston Watson joined the band, Bob gave one of his greatest concerts ever in Jackson, Mississippi (the glorious PDub capture is included in full here – you probably haven’t even heard ot it before!).

And the Bromberg material really is great, and the Waikiki concert really is shit (Bob must have been drinking too much pineapple juice that night).

And you won’t find the good stuff on the “name” silver booties from 1992 – you need to look elsewhere.

What you won’t pick up here is the constant experimentation with the arrangements, night by night,
especially on the acoustic songs where Bob has more control: slow / fast, acoustic / electric, early / late vocals, sweet / helium / mumbled vocals, endless harp variations. Line up a song like It Ain’t Me, Babe or The Times They Are A-Changin’ & marvel at the results.

The sound is generally very good to excellent, but there are some low-fi moments.
Includes all the songs performed live in 1992 (lots of ’em.)

So here it is:
139 performances,
107 songs,
55 concerts,
41 cities, &
9 countries.

There is strong evidence that Dylan almost started crying
during the last two lines of the Einstein verse in Desolation Row.
Members in the front row in the audience report that they saw tears pouring out of his eyes and that
he stepped back and spoke briefly with Jackson and Garnier and then retreated to the back of the stage
while the band went into a lengthy instrumental. He then came back and finished the song.
Desolation Row was not played until 14 April 1992 in Sydney , when the same thing happened again!
