31 Days of Horror

Just over a year ago, Amazon Drive gave me notice that they were discontinuing their service. That forced me to make a decision I had been pondering for quite some time anyway: should I keep The Midnight Cafe going? Or should I shut it down?

Obviously, I decided to keep it going, but I did make some major changes. I quit doing individual posts for individual shows and started doing one post each day with a link to the downloads via Google Drive. I started writing lots of movie reviews, posting YouTube music videos, linking to cool stuff, and generally turning this site into an old-school blog. Like what I used to write when I first started. I also started making public all of my old non-bootleg-related posts from years ago.

I am genuinely curious as to what everybody thinks of the site, one year later.

But also it is time for 31 Days of Horror again. That was the first major non-bootleg series I did on this site since making this change. I remember having a lot of fun with it and I’m very pleased to be doing it again.

I guess this feels like an anniversary of sorts, and that makes it seem like a time to look back. I don’t have any big thoughts on all of this, except to say I really enjoy writing these movie reviews and talking about things that interest me beyond just posting downloads to live music. I hope you do too.

  1. I’m glad you kept the site going and I enjoy the variety of your posts. Thank you for the time you put into this.

  2. Your site rocks! Each change is really an upgrade overall, at least to some portion of your audience here. By that I mean, I’m not a movie watcher so I don’t have have much to add on those posts – but for a lot of people that holds a lot of appeal – and I become aware of a lot I’d never heard of just by scrolling through!

And for the music posts, it’s easier than ever to get a bunch of cool shows by a variety of artists.

Also – the Google system of file sharing is way less janky than I’ve seen on other sites, BTW – it’s easy as a breeze, fast, no viruses or ads, and free. My favorite file share service is generally Filefactory, which I pay for, but I know not everyone is able to do that. So the Google system here is great – even with the convolutions they’ve given you! 🙂

    1. Thanks, I appreciate the response. I started sharing bootlegs because I wanted to give back to the community that had given me so much. I figure I’ve done that by now 🙂 but as long as it remains fun I’m happy to keep sharing the music. That’s the whole thing to me at this point. I’m having fun talking about movies and sharing music. For awhile just sharing the shows everyday had become a chore, but I like the new method and I like talking bout movies so it remains an enjoyable activity for me. I hope others enjoy it too.

  3. I love live music, and so I am very glad that you’ve kept Midnight Cafe going. I cannot imagine how much work this is for you, but I certainly do appreciate it – not exclusively, but especially for the Dylan posts. The new download method is fine and gets the job done efficiently and without trouble. Thanks again.

  4. Checking The Midnight Cafe everyday for new posts is one of the joys in life. Love the live music, although not downloading as much as I used to, I’m not a completist (sp?), but enjoy seeing what you are sharing and always on the lookout for new (to me) movies to watch. Thanks for keeping it going and your efforts are much appreciated here in N. Utah (Logan), where culture runs thin, live music is scarce, and the white bread reigns supreme.
    Many, many thanks!

    1. I appreciate your comment. I hear you on a lack of culture. Here in Oklahoma we don’t have much. although I do live close to Tulsa and they are getting better all the time.
