Neil Young – The Northern California Bar Tour, 1996

In the Spring of 1996, Neil Young and Crazy Horse embarked on what has come to be known as the Northern California Bar Tour. That’s a bit of a misnomer as all but a couple of gigs in Santa Cruz were all played in the same place – Old Princeton Landing in the small, seaside village of Princeton-By-The-Sea.

The band had been recording an album at the time and a big tour was planned for the summer, but no one really knows why they decided to play this tiny little bar in the middle of nowhere for fourteen gigs over the course of several weeks.

The gigs were never officially announced and the band decided to call themselves The Echoes, but of course word of mouth spread quickly and lines formed around the block all to gain entrance into a place that holds about 150 people.

The band played an eclectic mix of songs incorporating lots of old and obscure tunes.

Amazingly, every show was taped and I’ve got them for you now.
