No Country For Old Men 4KUHD is the New Blu-ray Pick of the Week

I’m a little late with this. I assume pretty much all of you follow my other blog and have heard my tales of illness and woe. Short end of it is I have pneumonia. I’m on the recovery end of it, but it was a rough go of it there for a bit.

The weeks between Thanksgiving and Christmas are always bountiful with new releases and this week is no exception. The Coen Brothers are one of my favorite directors and No Country for Old Men is one of my favorite films of theirs. The Criterion Collection is releasing a 4K UHD disc this week so naturally it is my pick, but there are lots of other cool things coming out too which you can read about in my article over at Cinema Sentries.

    1. How are you liking your 4K player? i was skeptical at first as I’m usually happy watching low quality rips of things, but I’m finding myself happy I bought one. I don’t know that I’ll upgrade everything but for certain films it will be nice to have that extra quality

      1. Found a 4K copy of JOKER for $14 at Half Price books. Even though I had the Blu-ray, I read stellar reviews of the PQ so I bought it. It looks gorgeous even on our older Samsung.

4K Apocalypse Now (Final Cut/Redux/Theatrical – Lionsgate 6-disc Reprint sale) arrives possibly today.

      2. I didn’t mention it, but the only disc that has caused a problem with the Panasonic is the Criterion 4K of The Fisher King. I bought it at the recent Barnes & Noble Criterion 50%-off sale, and it froze & pixelated where Lydia goes to the apartment to get her nails done. So I exchanged the disc. Same problem. So I exchanged my 4K player. Same problem. So I returned disc #2 as also defective. I figure a bad pressing by Criterion, because Mulholland Dr and Baron Munchausen (bought during the same sale) and The Last Waltz and Pat Garrett & Billy the Kid (I still have about 30 minutes to watch) Criterion 4K discs play fine.

I’ll buy The Fisher King again when Barnes & Noble next has their semi-annual Criterion 50%-off sale, and hopefully they will have created a new batch of discs by then.

  1. This film is a great journey- you can’t easily predict what will happen next, which makes it so engaging. Highly recommended! One of my favorites as well….

  2. This movie is an excellent journey- It’s hard to tell were it will go next which makes it so engaging. Highly recommended! One of my favorites as well…
