State of the Blog: 2024

We are back from our little holiday. We had a good time but I’m always glad to be home. Since it is New Year’s Eve I thought it would be fun to do a little year-end roundup.

It was a bit of a weird year mainly due to me creating this brand new Midnight Cafe Music site in August. After some threats of legal action, I thought it was best to make everything private, but since I still wanted to talk about movies and such it seemed appropriate to make a new site and move all the shows here. It has mostly worked out well.

I appreciate everyone’s willingness to move and I hope it went relatively smoothly for you. A few times a week I still get people asking me how to gain access to this site so I know not everyone has made it here yet, but it feels like most of the old gang is here.

I will still ask you to not post links to this site publicly. I have no problem if you want to invite your friends or if you send invites through DMs and PMs on any forum or message board or whatever, but I’d prefer the actual URL not exist in pubic for right now.

I posted something like 1,400 posts in 2024. Some of you will remember when I wasn’t doing individual posts for individual shows. Each day I’d just do a single post and then link to my Google Drive for each new show posted. I started back doing individual posts for each show in March. I thought it was much earlier than that, but I was wrong. That seems so long ago.

This site is still a work in progress. I’m still fiddling with it behind the scenes. For example, I’ve still got a lot of work to do on the artist’s pages. For some reason, most of them didn’t transfer over so I’ve had to make new pages. And even the ones that did transfer contain links that now no longer work. As I post new shows (or repost old ones) I’m trying to add new Artist Pages when they don’t exist, and I’m replacing the bad links as I have time.

For a long time I posted certain artists on certain days (Bob Dylan on Monday, Grateful Dead on Wednesday, etc) but sometime this year I got bored with that. Since then I’ve played around with what shows I post on any given day. I’ve still not really settled into a groove which I find fun. I like posting lots of random stuff. I hope you enjoy it, too.

I’ve always appreciated comments and I will say a heartfelt thank you to all of you who leave comments on this blog. It really does keep me going. Also, those of you who do comment have a huge impact on what I choose to post. Of course, I always try to post any requests you all make, but when you comment on a show I make a note on the artist, or tour, or whatever, and try to post more of that. I was never really a Jackson Browne or Fleetwood Mac fan for example, but I posted a couple of their shows and got good comments so I’ve been seeking them out and posting what I find.

I don’t have any big plans for 2025 except to keep posting more shows. I suspect you all will like that.
