d1t03. Introduction
d1t04. Move

d1t06. Ornithology/

Notes:

  • d1t06 fades out at the end of the track with the music still playing.
  • Decent sound. There is a Slight hiss and crackle, but very enjoyable. A great early
performance by some big hitting players.
  • “Davis, Green, Stitt, and Chaloff (billed as “The Stars of Modern Jazz”) joined the
Bud Powell Trio, Sarah Vaughan, the Lennie Tristano Sextet, the Stan Getz-Kai Winding
group, and the Charlie Parker Quintet for a Christmas Eve late-night concert.
(The bulk of the concert is on the Jass CD.)” – Credit to Peter Losin,

  • “From mid-November through December 10 Davis was booked along with Anita O’Day
at the Hi-Note Club on the north side of Chicago; he was backed by Eddie Baker (p),

d1t08. Big Foot/

Notes:

  • d1t08 is incomplete.
  • The sound is a little muffled and distant, with some light static. Still listenable.
Pretty good considering the origin was a TV broadcast from 58 years ago. d1t08 was
definetely the cake taker in this performance.
  • This is a very interesting recording, a real good example of the period, splitting
at the seams with short cameo’s from some real legends.
  • I believe the TLH reading below shows lossy due to the fact that this was an early
television broadcast and the wave lengths are severly limited. I don’t believe that MP3’s
    were a factor.
  • “Recorded for the WCBS-TV show Adventures in Jazz. Davis plays only on the “Big Foot”
jam, a bop-vs.-Dixieland duel with Kaminsky. His range is impressive here, just as it
is on the recordings a couple months later from the Paris Festival International de Jazz.

  • “At this time Davis was a member of the Tadd Dameron Tentet, in the midst of a
month-long engagement (February 12-March 16) at the Royal Roost on Broadway.” – Credit to

Notes:

  • This was also released as LL24. The levels are a bit brighter on Peter’s version
and the last trac “How High The Moon” was totally missing on LL24. This is a clear cut
    upgrade in my opinion.
  • d1t08 fades out mid song.
  • The sound is good, there is a slight amount of hiss present.
  • “This is a subset of an Oscar Pettiford-led All-Star group booked for three weeks
(January 5-24) at the Clique Club on Broadway.” – Credit to Peter Losin,
