If you are looking for a Fall 79 show, look no further, this is often overlook for the infamous next night. This show has steaming Franklin’s, a rolling Passenger too. A wonderful China>Rider to open the second set, a Playin with all the trimmings, if your are drums person you’ll like this too. Thanks for the Upgrade Matt!

Hey big fan of your site. Where do you get all of the Trader’s Vault cover art?

From the Trader’s Vault. Sorry not trying to be snarky, but there is a private site that has a huge selection of Dead/Jerry stuff and lots of art. It is private though and I’m not the one who hands out invites. Sorry.

Not a problem! I know a site where I can get a page full of Trader’s Vault cover arts. I just haven’t seen the ones you posted before.

If there is a particular show you would like the cover to drop me a line and I can grab it for you. Not ever shows has a Trader’s Vault cover but a good chunk of them do.

This is a great, great show! The night before at the same venue is legendary (issued on 30 Trips), but this comes close. Great Half Step > Franklin’s opener – they played one of the best-loved versions of Franklin’s the night before, but here they break it out again and it is ANOTHER monster version, at 18 min. China Cat is also good and Playin’ has some dazzling runs by Garcia and lasts 19 min. Fantastic stuff.
It would be nice to stick with this somewhat neglected period of the GD (1979-83) for a while!

Here’s a question for everybody – I’m trying to track down my favourite versions of Playing into Uncle Johns – there’s one where the Playing jam stops on a pin, then everybody sings verse of Uncle Johns acapella for the transition – I thought this was Richmond 77 (mosque) but it’s not – anybody know what show it is ????
also – any recommendations for shows with good transitions where they really jam thru the changes in a seamless fashion – I love it when they do it but I can’t remember now where I’ve heard the best ones………. cheers folks

Good question. I remember that transition as well, but couldn’t for the life of me tell you what show its from. I’m pretty terrible at that sort of thing, but maybe someone else will chime in.

There are many, many shows (hundreds!) where the boys do seamless transitions!
Try these three “Dew” double decker sandwiches (Playin’ > UJB > Dew > UJB > Playin’): 1973/11/10, 1973/11/17, 1974/03/23. A truly fantastic Playin’ > Wharf Rat > Playin’ is on 1974/06/08, Oakland and a great Playin’ > Scarlet Begonias (!) on 1974/08/06 Jersey City.

This is driving me nuts – I can’t find the acapella transition I was thinking of !

I could have sworn it was a 77 show… interesting factoid: PITB and Uncle Johns only appear on the same setlist twice in 1977 and only once joined together ( Fox, 19th ).

I think the one you mean may be 1977/05/19 Atlanta – though they do strum some UJB chords before entering acapella..
