  1. Cheers Mat,

Also progress on Bob 78 – found silvers so should be soon.
Incidentally, i’ve been FLACing all my orig WAV rips due to space issues. I’m using TLH. Do you want the 78 in WAV as before or shall i FLAC ’em first. If so, do you use the default level in TLH of 5?. I’m not bothered and haven’t done the ’78 yet so could rip ’em to match your rips.
If you particularly want the WAVs that’s no problem. With disc 3 i would suggest either just the faulty track as WAV, or the whole disc again as FLAC. really i’m easy about it jsust more d/ling for you as WAV that’s all.

Let’s just get this one sorted. After that tje WAVs will all be convered at some point soon anyway, so last chance if you particularly want WAV

  2. ok, will do, FLAC ‘level’ is a bit misleading anyway. Higher levels just mean it spends more time looking for a ‘best fit’ most effecient compression algorithm. It takes longer and results in (marginally) smaller file sizes (10-20 mb per disc approx) . It has no bearing on sound qual or processing power reqd for decoding/playback. I always extract as WAV and then convert to FLAC as I am convinced this gives a better more reliable result however.
I know EAC only seems to work properly when you go ‘all in’ with it and convert direct to flac. But then in 6 years and endless pc/cd rom drive combinaations I have never managed to get it to successfully setup and callibrate, even using freshly unwrapped retail CDs!!

  3. Oh by the way, haven’t d/ld yet but with those dodgy FLAC files for the 95 post the only solution is likely to be converting to wav and then using Soundforge (or Audacity?) to copy the good left channel onto (i.e. replacing) the missing/bad right channel and then re-encoding the resultant wav back to FLAC.
Not perfect obviously, but prob the only way forward
