Awesome – can’t wait to hear this. Thanks Mat! There is something about Van’s San Fran shows through the years that is always special.
Yes Grant – San Francisco, Belfast, Dublin and London seems to be where the magic happens! London less so in more recent times, back in the 80s the London gigs were often pure magic – eg the Dominion shows posted here in the past
Grant and DylanDave … Recently married … my wife had Van concert as a ‘bucket list’ item. We drove 550 miles from Oregon and made the 2nd SF show in November our honeymoon. It was my third time. Talk about Magic. We both were surprised by the excellent 20 minute set to open the evening by Shana. Van played EXACTLY 90 minutes with no encore. He did ‘take us there’ a couple of times and we both have smiles whenever we discuss the show. He can still bring it. Maybe not for a full show but there are some very special moments at the Masonic in SF.
@25thBeatle – Congratulations!
ps actually 90 mins isn’t too bad really. Chuck Berry and Ray Charles both had their sets down to about 45 mins by the time they reched Van’s age. Only problem nowadays are the prices – if you start working out the price per minute or how much each song has cost you then you start getting grumpy about the ‘filler’ trax at gigs!
We used to have certain trax at Dylan gigs designated for bar trips/fag breaks or toilet breaks – can’t justify that kind of behaviour anymore!!
