dodger recording: I recorded this show from row R, a little to the left of center on a PCM M10 Sony.
I then tried to reduce the bass and up the amplification.
First seed for me but since the show hadn’t gone up yet and it’s the first show of this leg of the tour I thought
I’d get something out there.

  1. Please note the MP3 origin of this source. That’s why I didn’t add “lossless” to the title. Is it weird to anyone else that a guy like JTT who is adamant that nobody converts his FLAC files to MP3 and posts them publicly would take an MP3 source, convert it to FLAC and post it everywhere?

  2. Wow! this is really great…
Got tickets for some fall shows, listening to this.. I can’t wait.
Wonderful post my friend, thank you.

  3. He might have just been desperate! I’ve been really struggling to find any dates before the 9th. Mr Thousand Highways seems to have got ’em all – must have some good contacts!

    1. Its not a big deal its just one of those things that annoys me. I’ve taken flack for posting MP3s on this site from folks like JTT and then here he is taking a lossy source and converting it to lossless for no other reason that he just can’t stand for something to not be lossless.

It is weird though if someone like JTT can’t get a lossless source.

  4. I beg your pardon but the downloading gives me this answer:

    What happens?

  5. Had the same problem as Ricky. The download gives the Woodinville show of June 4th and not the Tokyo show of April 4th.

  6. I hear you Mat – you will prob remember I have difficulty understanding his authoring of DVDs with lossy 2.0 stereo!
In this case it would appear that maybe there was some overriding need to edit the sound file(s), and that requires conversion to WAV. Re-encoding to mp3 would of course further damage the sound. It’s a bit like capturing a lossy web stream as lossless FLAC. I understand your frustration however!

ps setlist (as given here) doesn’t match Wooinville, also checked it does match Tokyo date, also tapers name suggests…

  7. How do you know people are engaging with your blog? Screw something up and they will certainly let you know about it.

Sorry gang, link should be fixed. Which now makes the comments section look ridiculous.

  8. I hadn’t made it as far as the link myself. Should prob do that before commenting anyhow. In this case I had decided to move it down the list of priorities due to the lossy thing.

Anyway I’m more than capable of appearing ridiculous without any assistance from your excelllent blog.

Still leaves the pressing issue of locating (even in lossy if necessary) the first 3 nights of Bob’s Japan run. i.e. the 4th 5th and 6th April. As the notes from the other nights sometimes state – spare a thought for SPOT, just an ordinary guy braving the restaurants etc of the far east on our behalf (or something like that).

Where would we be without him?

    1. Indeed. Just for kicks I’ve been making myself a spreadsheet of all the LB numbers which I will then mark according to which of them I have copies of (and spend a lifetime trying to obtain the remaining.)

Holy crap are there a lot of them. I’m not quite finished putting it all together but I’ve got up to 2007 and already there are nearly 10,000 different recordings. What an amazing collection of music.

All of which also makes me really excited about the new Dylan archives opening up in Tulsa. They say they have loads of Soundboard recordings on file. Supposedly you’ll be able to listen to them there but not be able to take home a copy or anything. I half expect some mad genius will find a way to record them on the fly and we’ll suddenly get an enormous amount of new music, but maybe that’s just a dream. I don’t live far from there so I’ll definitely be giving it a few visits.

There actually doing a kind-of preview thing next month where they are gonna show the DA Pennebaker movies and then run some “never before seen” video recordings of a couple of shows. Sadly its happening on my wife’s birthday and she’s just not that into Bob so I’ll be missing it.

  9. Blimey, and i’ve noticed that it’s not all dates which even have an LB number, well not a properly indexed one anyway. I’ve tried searching for many boots over the years and even scanned the archives by eye without success in the past.

Tulsa business sounds interesting. Rumour has always been that Bob records the NET gigs on some very simple basic recorder. Don’t quote me but i think that may be where those ’93 ‘Righteous To Me’ ‘pre-boards’ (whatever that actually means!) originate from. Hopefully there will be more gigs recorded from the tours and venues which were properly recorded for live album purposes (we know and have some projected unreleased gos[pel era stuff). Then again, if so, why no ‘Deluxe’ expanded veresions of the live albums? Obviously there was multi-track recording going on during the Rolling Thunder stuff (used on the Bootleg Series), always just assumed that was due to the filming etc

ps don’t worry there’ll be a mad Dylan genius or six intercepting in some fashion. Just like the Wolfgang’s Vault sourced ’74 boot you posted recently
