Grateful Dead

Fillmore East,
New York City, NY

Download: FLAC/MP3

This is a flac encoded & tagged version of shnid: 14856
audience recording (early show?)

–Songlist–
101 – //Dark Star ->
102 – St. Stephen ->
103 – The //Eleven ->
104 – I’m a King Bee ->
105 – Death Don’t Have No Mercy//

–total time–44:29–

notes:
– The beginning of Dark Star is cut, probably a couple minutes are gone.
– splice in Eleven at 0:55: perhaps a minute is missing
– cut in The Eleven at 2:46
– Death Don’t cuts out near the end

This is a minor upgrade to the previously circulating version
( http://db.etree.org/shn/9376 ),
hiss and distortion are less present.

At least the first 20 minutes clearly sound better,the quality worsens at about
23 minutes and I am unsure which tape actually sounds “better”. To repeat the
comment of the JJoops/Jack Warner seed, “This recording is not stellar in sound
quality, and therefore might be better suited to the completists and fans of early Dead.”

  1. I apologize for not posting very often the last few weeks. I think I mentioned that I’ve been trying to organize my files a bit. Since using Amazon I have just thrown everything into one documents file in their cloud. This has worked pretty well as the way I label the files (artist – date – file type) allows me to sort if alphabetically and find everything pretty quickly. When I’m posting I would sort by date added and find the last thing I posted then just move up.

    But I knew I was missing some shows. Accidentally I’d skip something and over time the skips grew significant. I decided to start sorting into artist folders. This would allow me to check to ensure the show was posted and to do some other assorted organization. For a long while I was doing this randomly but for several weeks I’ve been more systematic about it.

    I’m going through the list alphabetically. It is a big project. It started with over 4,000 files. I’m currently down to about 2,500 so I’m moving through it, just slowly. I’m in the middle of the Grateful Dead circa 1969 as you can see with this post. The majority of shows have been previously posted so I just do my behind the scenes organizing and move on. Now and again I run across something like this gem which I’d forgotten to post and it shows up here.

    I am continuing to upload shows everyday. When the shows come in the alphabet before the things I’ve already organized then I post them pretty quick. Which is why you continue to see Bob Dylan pretty often. As I’m working through the Grateful Dead you’ll start to see them appear every week.

    Most of this means nothing to you regulars, but its allowing me to do some nice organizational things to the blog, better maintain my lists and hopefully will make a better site once I’m done. Until then forgive me for not posting several new shows every day.

  2. Love your blog. I am having difficulty, for the first time ever, getting the links to work. When I c;ick on “download” nothing happens on this post and the Dylan Rolling Thunder post. Help?

    1. The same thing just happened to me. Since no one else has complained today I’m guessing its just a bit of an outage on Amazon’s part. Try it again tomorrow and I’ll bet it will work. Let me know if it doesn’t.

  3. You’re forgiven – it’s given me a chance to catch up on some other stuff (I’ve been sorting through and enjoying some Steely Dan shows I’ve been meaning to get to). Keep up the good work.

  4. And for the record, I have a TON of Dead downloads but didn’t have this one. Thanks for adding to my collection!
