I highly suggest that if you haven’t already subscribed to receive e-mails for The Midnight Cafe that you do so. You should be able to input your e-mail address into the little box on the right sidebar. I promise I will never do anything untoward with your e-mail. I can’t promise that WordPress won’t but I’ve never heard them selling your e-mail or spamming you.
When you subscribe you should receive an automatic e-mail from the blog letting you know whenever I add a post. This is helpful, especially if you are like me and you forget to come to your favorite blogs on the regular.
Which brings me to my question, how often do you receive e-mails? I’m pretty sure you receive them whenever I post something brand new. But it also seems like it sends one out if I bring an old post out of private mode and into public mode.
Let me back up. When I shut my blog down I made every single post private. Then I made my entire blog private. The blog going private means that no one has access to any post unless I allow them in. Everyone reading this should be allowed in. But even though you all are here I can still make certain posts private so that only I can read them. Many of those old posts are still private. I am slowly going back through them, cleaning them up and then making them public (although still not visible to anyone who is not a member since it is still a public blog – does that make sense?)
It seems like whenever I move an old post from private to public an e-mail is sent out. Except sometimes that doesn’t happen? At least that’s what’s happening on my end. I also receive e-mails when I post something new, but I’m not sure if that’s because I’m subscribed like you all are subscribed or if it is because I run this blog.
For example, today I moved a whole bunch of Grateful Dead shows from private to public but I didn’t receive any e-mails about it. Did anyone else? Can you tell me what e-mails from my blog you received today? I can’t quite figure out when it decides to send an e -mail and I’m hoping you all can help.

I never get an email – not at all – but since you allowed me access, I just choose to log in each day. No problem for me.
If you don’t receive an e-mail then you are probably not subscribed. Which is fine. You can subscribe if you want to.

Interesting. It seems like not everyone is getting an email for every post that I do. I posted at least 6 things today. I should have kept track of what I posted but I didn’t realize I needed to.
I definitely posted Grateful Dead shows for : 03/10/81, 03/16/68, 03/29/69, 02/13/70, 04/08/71, 11/14/72, 05/19/74, 03/17/75 (plus a Jerry shows on that date), and 07/14/76, plus a Joe Cocker show and a Joe Cocker Show by Date.
I wonder if maybe when I do a whole bunch of posts in one day WordPress doesn’t send out an e-mail for everyone.
When I first opened this place back up I was doing a weekly post that linked to all the old shows I had made public again. But then I figured everyone was getting e-mails for them and that wasn’t necessary. Maybe I’ll start doing it again.

I think that’s what I will have to do. To find those dead show go to the artists pages, click on the Grateful Dead then go to the proper year and you’ll find them. Or you can just use the search bar

Hi Mat i receive your e-mails fairly regularly, as you say every time that you post a new show up. Some great stuff on here, you do a great job mate!
So far today I’ve received 5 Neil Young shows. I get emails just about every day form you and I always look forward to them.
My experience pretty well tracks with yours, Matt. I get emails for all brand new posts, and occasionally when you “unlock” an old post. I also get spammed with essays from WordPress but its not intrusive and some of them are kind of interesting.
Whenever I see a Grateful Dead post I just gotta poke around for any new ones that have reappeared silently. I was curious about this — if I was missing the emails or what. Nice to know its not only me.
An idea to consider . . . what if you put a new post up saying that you unlocked such and such old posts ? That would probably get the word out.

I also received four emails about the following Grateful Dead shows: 2/7/69, 3/29/69, 5/19/74 and 12/31/88. I hope this is of help to you. Hi Mat,I’m having trouble unzipping flac files so that the unzipped files have the song titles. Sometimes I get the titles and sometime I just get Track 1, Track 2 etc. I use windows10 and the default unzip app. Thanks for any help you can give me. Fritz Liebich
Some of the FLAC files are not labeled or tagged. This comes from the original taper or uploader. I’m simply a vessel that shares the files as I receive them. There are a variety of software programs that will allow you to tag the FLAC files so that their names will come up when you play them on the music player of your choice.
I don’t know why the original uploaders don’t properly tag things. It isn’t hard to do and it would save everybody a lot of time, but lots of people.

I might be repeating what other people have said but I’m getting the emails and am loving them – am downloading like crazy! And have finally figured out the FLAC thing and have not looked back on the loss of MP3s…!
I’ve gone through and done a little reconciliation on those shows you listed above and similar to others – I got emails for 03/29/69, 05/19/74, 12/31/88, 02/07/69 and last but not least, Joe Cocker. Not the others. I couldn’t find any of them by scrolling down on the MC homepage or going to the recent GD band page or the date pages (the links on the right) but eventually found them by searching for them, or in the case of the ’75 show, I found that one listed under the 1975 date link (Posted January 20, 2020). In the case of the 03/10/81 show, it looks like you originally posted that in 2016. So bottom line – I couldn’t see any reference to any recent postings of the ones I haven’t received emails for. Hope this helps!
