Shows of the Day and Another Break

I have now reached my 4 TB limit on the Drive. Don’t worry, I’m not asking for money at this time. You all gave enough during my last begging that I can upgrade to 5 TB at any time.

I upgraded to 4 TB from 3 TB in late June. That means I added in an additional 1 TB of music in about five months. That’s a lot of shows in a small amount of time. When I was uploading MP3s, I had to convert the FLAC to MP3, add the MP3s to my iTunes, add in the show name, song titles, etc., then upload them along with the FLACs to the cloud and then (usually the next morning) post them to the Cafe. All of that was pretty time-consuming, so I was usually only adding 3-5 shows to Amazon per day.

When I dropped MP3s, that number went up as I no longer had to bother converting them. But doing individual posts was still time-consuming, and I tried not to get too far ahead of myself in terms of what I was uploading and what I had time to post. But I was still uploading maybe 10 shows per day.

Now that I’m no longer doing individual posts, my uploading of shows has increased significantly. Hence uploading 1 TB in five months. I suspect that time frame would decrease even more next time. Which is why I am taking yet another break.

My concern is that if I upgrade to 5TB now I would hit that goal in just a few months at which point I would have to ask for more money. Then a few months later I’d have to ask for more money. Then a few months later…well you get the picture. The amount of money needed for each asking, er begging, would increase. If I’m asking for hundreds of dollars every few months I figure at some point you all are gonna get tapped out.

At some point I’m going to have to figure out a long term solution, but for now I figure I can take a break since I’m paid up on the 4TB until next summer, let you guys catch up a little more by digging into the archives, then restart in a few weeks.

I’ll actually stay pretty busy during this “break.” I will continue organizing my shows and putting them on my list. I feel like I’ve been saying that for ages, but when you have thousands of shows you’ve never put on your list, it takes awhile.

I will also slowly move my way though the Amazon Drive deleting zipped up shows and uploading the same shows as unzipped folders. It annoys the organizer in me that I now have both zipped shows and unzipped ones.

I think I will periodically go back through the old posts that are still sitting in private mode and clean them up then make them “public” so that you guys can see them. I know I’ve moved away from doing individual posts for each show, but it seems a pity to have all those old posts locked away in private mode. When I do this I expect anyone who receives my e-mails will get one for those old posts. I hope that doesn’t become confusing.

  1. I don’t really no how long my break is going to be. I suspect I’ll upgrade to 5TB sometime in January. I’d likely be taking some time off for the various holidays coming up anyway.

  2. Please accept sincere thanks, from me, and all of our music loving friends,
enjoy your break, and best wishes to you and yours, happy holidays,
    Jim Blueschester

  3. Mat, take breaks whenever needed, we’re so lucky to have your posts, whenever they are put up! Thank you, thank you, thank you! And know that we all are more than happy yo help out financially whenever needed, don’t hesitate to ask!! Enjoy the holidays!!

  4. Mat, are you familiar with a little program called MP3Tag, for adding and editing tags in music files? I find it so much more useful than iTunes. You can import text file lists of tracks, and manipulate tags and file names, great little app.

    1. I’ve used MP3Tag before. it is a nice little piece of software. I don’t actually use iTunes anymore as I don’t mess with MP3s these days. I use a program called Clementine to play my FLAC files and it has an easy method to tag them as well.

  5. More Dylan and it’s not even Monday!! As always, thank you for the superb work you do. Please don’t hesitate on any account for further funding. All of us in the cafe are forever indebted to you for all the super music you provide.

    1. Like I said I’ve got money in my Paypal from last time that will cover the upgrade to 5TB. But it irritates the cheapskate in me to upgrade now when it seems like I just paid for the 4TB. And with all the holidays coming up it seems like a good time to take another break, let everyone catch up on what I’ve already posted and then upgrade in the new year.

  6. Take a break and keep your life in order. That is what’s important. We will meander through the archives and keep ourselves nourished on the music there. That is the way….. Happy Holidays and keep you and yours safe, sane and healthy

  7. Take care, Matt. I’m still catching up on downloading and organizing all the latest stuff since the last time you took a “break” 😉

    1. I’m afraid there isn’t, sorry. I can search my Amazon Drive but apparently when I share it, it doesn’t come with a search feature. You could search the blog for Crystal Cat and then manually look through the Amazon folder for that show. Although I’m afraid that won’t find everything either as so many of my shows are still in private mode here on the blog.

I did. a search of the Amazon Drive for you and came up with these shows:

      https://www.amazon.com/clouddrive/share/QAYQgCpujyPlfKvofXHcsTkCFVdeBCZqxLWeWWCDTCY

That won’t be all of them because I haven’t labeled all my folders with Crystal Cat, but it is a start.
