Jerry Garcia In 1981

I’ve been running this bootleg blog for going on 13 years. I love it, I really do. I love sharing the music and the community we’ve built. But I’d be lying if I said I don’t sometimes get burned out or bored. This has been especially true over the last couple of years with the pandemic, all the political nonsense, WordPress doing its best to make blogging impossible and various other things going on in the world and my personal life.

Sometimes I want to chuck it all. Most times I just need a break. But in those moments I often think of various other things I could do to both share the music and keep my sanity. Maybe someday I’ll do those things, but until then I keep trying to chug along.

One of the ways I keep my sanity is by mixing it up a little. I’ve really started enjoying collecting and sharing shows in some kind of order. You’ve seen that here when I’ve collected all the Dylan shows in 1978 or Neil Young performing with the Restless or Jerry Garcia and Reconstruction. This is just my way of keeping things interesting here at The Midnight Cafe.

A couple of weeks ago I was feeling a little restless and decided I was going to collect and then share all the Jerry Garcia shows from one particular year. What year didn’t really matter to me so I randomly chose 1981 as the year to do. As it turns out in my decade-plus of collecting and sharing Jerry shows I’ve managed to post almost all the Jerry Garcia shows from 1981 already. Thus this little project turned out to have already been done.

I think I did find one or two shows I didn’t already have and a few sources from shows I’d already posted but mostly I was done before I started. Because I’m me I still went in and cleaned up the posts a little and I deleted the zipped up files on my Amazon Drive and reuploaded the non-zipped folders.

Anyway, you can find all the Jerry shows from 1981 I have on his artist page.

In my searches, I did not find all the shows and sources that Jerry played in 1981 so I now humbly put out a request for them. If you have any of these sources in lossless quality please let me know and share them. Quite a few of them have no sources listed on Etree which I assume means no source exists, but I’m still putting it out here in case that’s wrong.

Thanks, and enjoy the Jerry.
