As I’m working my way through my unsorted shows I’m coming across a bunch of Dylan shows that have no source information. They are mostly from the early to mid-2000s and have labels like “cdr 706.”
I cannot for the life of me remember where these came from. I don’t know if I downloaded them from some random site or if someone sent them to me.
Does this sound familiar to anyone? Did you send them to me? If so do you have any source information for them? Are you ok with me posting them?
Sometimes when folks send me shows they will give me info on what they are sending me or they will request I not post them publicly for one reason or another. But I’m dumb and I tend to download things, then let them sit on the hard drive for ages. Then I forget where they came from. So before I do anything with these I wanted to see if I could figure out where they came from.
I did a search in my e-mail account but searching for things like “Bob Dylan” gets me the phone book. Anyway, if you did send these to me could you leave a comment or drop me an e-mail. Thanks.
Hey Mat,
I’ve been lurking on here for quite a while. The concerts are what first attracted me, but I have to say I pretty much enjoy it all. I’m an old guy, definitely analog. Back in olden times I had a revue reel to reel tape deck and we traded tapes back and forth. Before that it was crappy cassette decks with even crappier cassettes. I had friends that went “on tour” in the 70s and came back with shoe boxes full of tapes that only they truly appreciated. Loads of hiss and audience noise. I was dragged into the digital age and have never really comprehended it. A water shed moment came when after carting all my “irreplaceable” tapes around for I did a google search on one. The Great American String Band from LA somewhere with Grisman, Maria Maldaur, Taj Mahal and others. It took about 3 seconds for it to come up and I realized the folly of my ways. I sold everything. Now I have relisten on my iPhone and rarely listen to anything on it. But it’s there. Where I’m going with all this is the only concert I’ve never been able to find is Dylan RTR Burlington Vt. 11/8/76? I came close as some guy in Maine claimed he had it. Never did see it though. The other problem is, being old and lazy I have never actually figured out how to download all this stuff and burn it on to CDs that I can send to my old concert buddy that is still around and enjoys this sort of thing. I’m guess that there are sites that explain all this sort of thing. Anyway, I doubt this makes much sense but I just wanted to say thank you for all your work and if you ever run across that Burlington show send it my way. It was truly one of the definitive shows I’ve witness. And I’ve witnessed a lot. I’m 72 and was around for much of it. Cheers Mike Kemsley in Grand Isle Vt
\I should have never sold the Altecs. Haha.

Thanks for your kind comments and fun stories.
I’ve been collecting since the mid-90s. I remember the old tape trading days well. Then I moved on to CDRs. I still have a collection of those. I keep thinking I should rip those and share them, but like you I do a little Google research first and realize most of what I have has already been shared and is readily available.
That’s the thing with these Bob Dylan shows I wrote about. I don’t really want to share them if the sources are already out there, complete with text files and LB#s. But since I don’t remember where they came from I want to find more information so I can see if anything is rare or not.
Burning this stuff to CD isn’t hard, and I’m willing to help you if you like. But that stuff is definitely already out there if you do a little looking. Can your friend download MP3s and listen to them?
I remember the tape trading days too! Poi Dog Pondering is a group I love, and they had a fan site in the early days of the Internet itself (or at least, the Net as we know it) – the late 90s. A person on there sent me some cassettes of Poi Dog (in exchange for me mailing her some tapes of Van Morrison boots) and to this day I’ve never found those Poi Dog shows digitally. So at some point I need to figure out how to transfer cassettes to digital !!! 🙂
Good luck with that. I know it is possible to make that conversion, but I have no idea how. Also, I’ve never heard of Poi Dog, so I’ll have to check them out.
