OldNeumanntapr Notes-
This was the last time that I was able to record David Lindley at the old Cuesta College Auditorium, as it closed down in the mid 2000s. The building is located on the old Cuesta campus which was formally a part of the CA National Guard Camp San Luis Obispo complex. The auditorium, which is a ‘shoebox’ type with the stage at the narrow end, was constructed during WWII and is an unreinforced wood frame building. It was deemed not worthy for earthquake retrofitting, so it has been slowly sinking into decay for the past 10 years or so. The auditorium looked like hell, with pealing paint and a leaky roof, but has excellent acoustics. The performers who played there really enjoyed the sound inside the building.
This is a remastered version of my DAT master, done in July of 2015. The master had loud crowd noise (applause) between songs and detracted from the listening enjoyment of the recording. I believe that I had someone upload the previous version before to another tracker. I think this remaster sounds much better, now that Dennis worked his magic on it. The music sounds much more prominent and the crowd applause, while still present, is not overpowering. Thanks also to Terry Watts for digitally transferring my DAT master, as my DAT recorders have all given up the ghost and are unusable.
I last recorded David and Wally at the Cuesta Auditorium in 1998, with Neumann KM-184 cardioid microphones. The SKM-140s have the same capsules as the KM-184s but offer the use of active cables which make recording covertly so much easier! (AK-40 capsules + LC3 active cables + KM-100 amplifier stages = SKM-140s)
Mr. Dave and Wally always put on a good show and this was no exception. Lindley’s stories are always very entertaining. Sometimes I think I collect his shows, not only to her his slide playing, but also for his witty and imaginative stories.

Enjoy! Share freely, don’t sell, play nice, don’t run with scissors, etc. 😉
Thanks, Jeff & Mat. Must have missed or lost this somewhere along the way.
