OldNeumanntapr Notes:
After getting such good results at the two Great Western Forum shows I recorded with Gene’s new Sony D10 earlier in the month, he offered to ship out the recording gear to me so I could digitally record two of the shows in the ’89 NYE run at the Oakland Coliseum. Once again I used his CM 300 shotguns and Sony TCD-D10 DAT portable and once again I got some nice recordings. I remember thinking that the difference between the D10 DAT and my D6 PRO Walkman cassette was like night and day. The DAT recording had no hiss, an extremely wide frequency response, and a high signal-to-noise ratio. sadly I could not afford to purchase DAT gear for a few more years, but with Gene’s generosity we ‘shared’ the D10 and each recorded Dead shows on our respective coasts.
For these two shows Gene had purchased an additional NP-22H rechargeable NiCad battery for the deck so I didn’t have to shut down during Drums and Space to conserve battery power. Later we would split the cost of an ECO-Charge lead acid battery system.
