Five Cool Things and The Debut

Hush Hush by Laura Lippman

I try to keep up with posting here everything I write over at Cinema Sentries, but sometimesI’m really bad at it. There are also tons of stuff I wrote ages ago that I’ve never gotten around to posting here.

Basically, for several years I wrote stuff for Cinema Sentries and didn’t bother posting it here because this was a music-only site for a while. Then, when this became more of a movie site, I started posting the things I was writing for Cinema Sentries here. But there was a backlog. Sometimes I’ll go way back to the beginning and post all the really old stuff, but then there is constantly new stuff to post. And sometimes I don’t post the new stuff because I get busy or bored, or I just forget.

Then I’ll start back up with the new stuff, but I don’t always get caught up with what I missed. This creates little holes of posts that I’ve written for CS but not added here.

Someday I’ll get really organized with it and systematically go through all my writings over at Cinema Sentires and make sure they are all posted here.

Anyway, this is a Five Cool Things I wrote back in June. It features a novel by Laura Lippman, the Grateful Dead, a fun French film, a wonderful Samurai movie, a fantastic 1970s James Brolin film, and a trailer for The Debut. You can read more by clicking here.

Five Cool Things and Wicker

Vanishing Point 1971

Well, my friends, we’ve passed another two weeks together, and that means it is time for another Five Cool Things. This time I’m talking about Vanishing Point, The Outfit, Keep the Change, The Odyssey, Silence, and a new trailer for a fun-looking movie with Olivia Colman. You can read all about it over at Cinema Sentries.

Five Cool Things and Small Prophets

Crisis on Infinite Earths 35th Anniversary Deluxe Edition

I apparently forgot to post my Five Cool Things from July 8, so I’m doing that now. In it, I talked about the classic comic book crossover Crisis on Infinite Earths, the great Jean Gabin noir Hi-Jack Highway, a Charles Bronson thriller called Violent City, Chloe Zhao’s first film Songs My Brother Taught Me, Back to the Wall, a wonderful French thriller, and Small Prophets, a brilliant new show from MacKenzie Crook. You can read all about it at Cinema Sentries.

Five Cool Things and Digger

Hobtown Mystery Stories Vol 1 The Case Of The Missing Men cover

As per usual, I’m a little late with the posting of my Five Cool Things article. This week I’m talking about a Hobtown Mystery, Deadly Circuit, The Souffleur, Maximum Pleasure Guaranteed, Destroy All Monsters, In the Mouth of Madness, and the new trailer for a Tom Cruise movie. You can read all about it here.

As I mentioned in a previous post, I got confused about which date I was supposed to write the Pick of the Week for Cinema Sentries and when I was supposed to do Five Cool Things. I wrote this 5CT last week, but it is just now getting posted. As you can see this time I’m talking about Sheep Detectives, some classic Doctor Who, a lovely Spencer Tracy/Katharine Hepburn comedy, Civil War, and They Will Kill You. Click here to enjoy.

I seem to have forgotten to post my Five Cool Things from a few weeks ago, so here it is. This one features the HBO series DTF St. Louis, a Spider-Man comic I’ve been trying to find for decades, a Batman comic, Stephen King’s The Running Man, Buckaroo Banzai, and the trailer for a fun looking film.
