OldNeumanntapr Notes-
This was both the first and only time that I’ve seen Mark Knopfler’s band, and also the first and only time that I have been to the Greek Theatre in Los Angeles. I saw Dire Straits at the Oakland Coliseum on 2/2/92 on the ‘On Every Street’ tour, and I was glad to
see Mark again. I didn’t think there was a lot of difference between Dire Straits and Mark Knopfler solo. Mark Knopfler IS Dire Straits, in my opinion. I went to the Greek show with my friend Dave. They have ‘stack’ parking at the Greek, on the lawn, so you can’t leave until the show is over. I’d never seen that before, but I guess it’s because they have limited space. The Greek is a beautiful amphitheatre, being right next to Griffith Park. There are huge redwood trees that encircle the amphitheatre. My first experience with the Greek was listening to Neil Diamond’s ‘Hot August Night’ LP when I was a kid, and hearing him talk about the ‘Tree People’ who would climb the trees to hear the show for free. I loved that album. Neil spoke of how beautiful the theatre was, and he wasn’t kidding. He said it was performer’s paradise. Dave’s first show was one of those ‘Hot August Night’ shows in August of 1972, at the Greek. We sat in the left terrace level. The two terraces, one on either side of the main amphitheatre, were added later and did not exist originally. Being that I was near the inside rail, I had a pretty clear and unobstructed view of both the stage and the left PA stacks, so the sound was pretty good. I did have a couple near me, who left midway through the show, that kept unwrapping
little hard candies. I think the microphones picked up the sound of the wrappers. I really enjoyed hearing live renditions of Knopfler’s solo albums, especially the songs ‘What It Is’, ‘Junkie Doll’ and ‘Speedway At Nazareth’ from the ‘Sailing To Philadelphia’ album, and ‘Rudiger’ from the ‘Golden Heart’ album.

Geetarz Comments:

Thanks to the folks at ZigZag, a great chronicle of the Dominos’
live shows, previously closely held only by a few traders. Quality
is average to fair to poor, as with many audience recordings from
the era, but the performances and historical importance of the shows
outshines any limitations of the actual recordings.

This is a a fascinating document of the beginning and an end of an
essential musical era, and the selection of sources provides a panorama
of how D&D’s live performances evolved over the short life of the band.
Many of the base sources are available separately, ZigZag has done a
little remastering and cleaning work, but nothing heavy handed that
detracts from the music, and in the end it’s a matter of personal
choice which source you prefer. Overall, a nice, well thought out
and packaged box set – recommended.

Dan Lampinski recorded over 100 concerts in the Providence/Boston area, mostly between 1974 and 1978. His earliest recordings were made with an internal microphone deck, and though they are somewhat lo-fi compared to his later work, some very great moments in rock history were captured for posterity. In late 1974 he bought a Sony TC-152SD tape recorder, a Sony ECM-99 stereo microphone, and began using Maxell cassettes. He was also fortunate enough to have a friend who provided excellent taping seats for many shows, resulting in high quality recordings. In 1977, he switched over to a Nakamichi 550 tape recorder, two Nakamichi CM-300 microphones, and continued using Maxell cassettes.

He recorded many of the major 70’s bands: Yes, Genesis, Pink Floyd, Queen, Blue Oyster Cult, Frank Zappa, Jethro Tull, ELP, Kiss, Black Sabbath, The Who, Al Stewart, Alice Cooper, Jeff Beck, Bruce Springsteen, Supertramp, Jean-Luc Ponty, Moody Blues, Neil Young, The Faces, Rush, Rick Wakeman, Kansas, as well as several “under the radar” acts.

Since Dan never traded copies of his recordings, they are all essentially uncirculated. Some copies were made for friends, but these releases are the first time most of these recordings have ever seen the light of day, and are direct from his master cassettes. No EQ’ing has been done to any of the transfers. Feel free to EQ, matrix, patch, etc and re-post if you like, just give Dan credit for the original recording.

Dan was very meticulous about taking good care of his tapes and is very pleased that these recordings will now circulate among the trading community. Please honour his kindness and generosity by sharing these recordings freely.

The transfers are available as 16bit/44.1KHz flac files suitable for CD burning, and also as 24bit/96KHz flac files for those who prefer the higher resolution.

Always remember – the more generous you are with your music, the more it comes back to you.

TRANSFER/EDITING NOTES:
Here is a slightly lesser known bootleg recording of The Who from the fall of ’75 “Who By Numbers” tour. The source, which was obtained fairly recently through online means, is typical of audience recordings of this era, perhaps even slightly inferior. To begin with, the overall level of this recording was little more than a whisper and the noise level was thus, fairly significant. Apart from the overall level of the source, the recording was also very muddy sounding, with unwanted low to low mid range frequencies forming a layer of muffled noise atop the musical elements of the recording. I have attempted to remove some of this unwanted noise and the apparent abundance of tape layer and possible multiple transfer noise built up over time as well as additional resonating frequencies perhaps from the original source recording. As usual I have decided against any form of noise reduction apart from a few very small click removals in several places where loud clicks/pops were apparent. This is not noticeable and does not affect the audio inversely in any way. I believe the result of this editing has been successful and a better sounding recording has emerged. It’s far from perfect and still contains a significant noise level along with other negative sound elements. Regardless, it is an improvement over the source material which to me, makes it worth keeping for Who collectors.

Welcome to my series of mostly uncirculated masters & very low generation shows that i recorded or received in trades in my younger days most of my masters
have not been circulated or only traded once or twice i used to trade a lot in the 70s – 80s & i have many many shows well in excess of 7,500 tapes
Of these shows about 120 – 150 are my masters they where always on my trading list but not many got traded so i boxed them all up in the late 80s now i have
decided to go through them & upload some of them.
I recorded many bands from Genesis ñ Bowie ñ Springsteen – Hawkwind – Hackett ñ Gabriel ñ Marillion plus many many others i will try & upload a least
one show a week if not two.
To record theses shows i used a Sony portable hand held tape recorder with built in stereo mics. I always used good quality tapes to record on mainly T.D.K.
I used to insert the tape deck in a empty coffee flask with the inside taken out of the flask to get past the security ah those where the days.
The only thing i ask is please donít sell these recording & donít convert to mp3 etc & if you do ( only for your own use ). Please donít change any of the files or
info files etc this is so that people can tell the difference between this source & other sources as many people like to compare different versions of shows.
Also please do not remaster these shows the reason for this is these days there are far to many remasters of shows. Its ok have one remaster etc, but some are
remastered that many times by different people there can be at least 10 different remasters of a show from the same source & it can get a bit tedious.

I got this tape about 2 years after the concert it is the full aud recording and is NOT source from the LP “STATE OF MIND” This tape as the full San Jacinto and
its placed at the beginning in the correct order.
This is one of the best recordings from the tour EX sound.
Don.t miss this one

Many many thanks to the trader for sending me a copy & the taper for taping the show.

I hope you enjoy this show please if you want to upload it to other sites please wait a week or so as i will be uploading these shows to a couple of other torrent sites.
after it has run its course on here

As Usual Please dont convert to mp3 ( only for your own use if you do ) Please Keep all the info files md5 etc in the folder so that
other collectors know which version this is etc and most of all DO NOT SELL.

PLEASE NOTE.

This series is from my own personal collection they are NOT SOURCED FROM ANY CDRs / OTHER TORRENT SITES ETC.
They are from recordings that i traded for between 20 – 35 years ago on audio tape as stated above they have all been boxed up for the past 20 or so years.
This is the first time any of them have been Digitally transfered and torrented. All i am doing to the recordings in nero wave editor is inproving the volume ( if low),
also equallizing the left and right channel where needed. Removing hiss etc ( If i can ).
Recordings in this series that have a generation linage are the correct linage as to what i was told when i was sent the recordings. Most of the traders i traded
with where well known traders so i have no reason to believe they are not the true Linage. if i had any doubt to the linage at the time i did not write it
down on the tape so all the low generation recordings in this series have a well known and correct linage to my knowledge.

Please do not remaster any of theses If you wish to do remastering of this source find yourself a better quality version and remaster that.
This version is how i remembered hearing it all them years ago and how it sounded when it was recorded the way it should be heard.

Please also buy the bands offical stuff and support them etc.
Thanks to all the Artists for there great music and to all the traders for keeping live music alive.

Many thanks Doctordavros ( one day the daleks will rule ).

Notes:

This is the third date of four at Madison Square Garden in New York during June 1974. Probably
the best sounding of the 4, the only fault is a slight fluctuation in vocal levels towards the
end. A messy end of show jam results in Roger storming off stage during Punk, not because of
mic failure (as audio evidence proves) but maybe due to the overall feeling on stage and in
the band at the time…

Won’t Get Fooled Again contains a cut just prior to Roger’s scream. See Me Feel Me contains
two cuts, both towards the end.
