As always (even when I forget to mention her) thanks to Nellie over at Expecting rain.

Bob played 49 concerts between 6/5 Denver & 9/18 Dallas.

These concerts were mainly double-header concerts with Paul Simon (where they alternated opening for each other every night),
along with some breakout club shows which were performed without Paul Simon,
along with the Crossroads benefit concert in New York with Eric Clapton.

Due to Bob playing with both the Paul Simon & Eric Clapton bands on occasions, some songs are duplicated in this compilation.
Some songs were played jointly with Paul Simon, with backup from the “opening” band.
All 81 songs played on this tour leg are included here.
This is a very misunderstood tour leg, which was widely criticized as a commercial money-grab at the time.

Having listened carefully to the available tracks from best possible sources (& all in FLAC),
I can assure you that the quality of both performance & sound is up there with the best of the NET.

What surprised me most were Bob’s sincere efforts to make the collaborations with Paul Simon interesting. The band alternated each night (depending on who opened), but each joint song also varied in structure from night to night with some great vocals from Bob (doing his best Art Garfunkel impersonation) & some very interesting harmonica. Bob probably drove Paul Simon nuts doing it but it worked. This might sound totally weird but lining up these collaboration songs & playing them one after the other is actually quite interesting!

49 concerts is a lot of concerts for one tour leg, but it holds up from start to finish.

PS – Bob also told a lot of jokes – I’m glad he did nor pursue a career in comedy.

EDW was founded with the primary goal of sharing all the Pink Floyd albums in their live versions. Of course we can not do this with all disks, but it will do with those that can.

We decided to start with Animals. Personally, this is my favorite Pink Floyd’s album. Fortunately, there are records of the dates 1977, although most are of average quality. The audio tracks were added fade in and fade out, to restore the mystique of the studio album. equalizes the final product, in addition to compress some tracks, with Cubase SX.

Comments from the original uploader: Grantchester Meadows and Green Is The Color are GREAT. Set The Controls For The Heart of the sun is a jolly good piece. Jupiters Eye/ Trip On Mars – one of these two is another version of Careful With That Axe, Eugene. Cymbaline is the best version so far. A Saucerful Of Secrets is only the last 6 minutes, which is too bad, because they’re great. Improvisation is SPLENDID, just great.

Overall: This is a really must have roio : the audience is very calm, and only applauds between songs. The quality of the recordings is not excellent, but good. -ANON

Strange collection, tracks are definitely not all from 19. Oct. 1969. Some of them are clearly studio recordings. Audience only between the songs audible. Saucerful features only the last part. Cymbaline is extra-long and extra-good!

This is a rare one, the bootleggers have spent quite some effort on this one, and have even made up some funky names. Jupiters Eye is a piece of Corrosion. Trip on Mars is the best version of Moonhead I’ve heard. Improvisation is Fingals Cave. And to complicate matters even further, the footsteps in Cymbaline have been replaced with Oenone. Grantchester Meadows and Green .. are probably taken from a performance of The Man and The Journey. All in all this ROIO is very enjoyable, since it has both a VG sound quality and the Performance/Rarity value is also high.

The only sad thing is that ASOS only has the last 6:44 minutes, but still, if you happen to see this cheap …

Also, if you’re hunting for authenticity this is *NOT* your disk, it’s a bunch of recordings from different concerts thrown together in one disc, coupled with some official but rare floyd songs -GERHARD

I think is a fairy forgery, not a ’69 London concert. “Jupiter’s eye” and “Improvisation” are from “Oneone /Fingal’s cave” studio outtake (listen to ‘Total Eclipse’), while the audience applause is artificial (all the same identical through the “concert”!!!, and it seems recorded in a small ambient, not in a theatre). The sound quality is variable (in “Grandchester Meadows” you can listen to scratches from vinyl source). Moreover “Grandchester Meadows”, “Set the Controls” are identical from those of Fillmore West, San Francisco Oct. 1970. The other live pieces are from the same or other ’70 concerts, I have not established yet. Thanks to Roio contributions for help in discovering this vile cheat. I’m very dejected about that. “This is taken from various sources, not ‘London, October 19 ’70’ as stated in TAP 48 – including the BBC sessions, the Zabriskie Point outtakes from the Omayyad b*****g LP, and an ‘unknown’ concert. Furthermore, each song has been doctored by some unscrupulous mixer. Careful observation reveals that the audience applause (apparently from only a handful of people) at the start of each song is identical, the first being a 7.27 Grantchester Meadow.

Green is the Colour/Careful with that axe, Eugene (12.48) are the BBC performances, with the fake audience; although Set the Controls for the Heart of the Sun (11.00) is a legitimate piece.

Jupiter’s Eye is where the butchery begins. After some research, I concluded that this is, in fact, Oneone from Omayyad, over-dubbed with the sound of bubbling mud (i.e. ‘Live at Pompeii’). Trip on Mars, meanwhile, is Moonhead from Music For Architectural Students. Cymbaline (18.28) is extended; about 6.15 in, the song is interrupted by footsteps and a slamming door. I realise that such effects were not uncommon for live performances of this track, but the abrupt switch makes me doubt that this was the work of the Floyd; who, even on a bad day, could do better. This is followed by a spacey intrumental passage – actually an extract from Omayyad’s live version of Interstellar Overdrive – then a repeat chorus, and a further ten minutes of Cymbaline.

Saucerful of Secrets (6.44) is, as stated in TAP 48, the Celestial Voices sequence from that track. The closing Improvisation (2.00) is a poor reproduction of Omayyad’s Fingal’s Cave, albeit with added audience !

However, despite all the trickery. I agree that Around the Mystic is an excellent CD; my favourite, in fact !” -TAP

It claims to be from one concert (London, 19 Oct 1969), but this is obviously a compilation of different performances. There are some annoying things with this RoIO. Some audience applause are added between songs (they are always the same!) and are in stereo. Most of the tracks are mono. It seems that this CD was mastered from vinyl, with some strange things added in the mix! So, sometimes one can hear “stereo” effects, but only because of the “stereo” vinyl scratches, and the stuff added.

In the middle of the song, there is a very low noise (similar to a bass drum) that doesn’t appear on the original version (see “Colourful Meadows”). Hello and welcome to JEMS’ Foxes In The Boxes, the third and, sad to say, final volume in a series featuring unreleased studio sessions from the Rolling Stones, circa 1979-85. Based on our research, along with the expertise of Stones sessionologist N, who helped us sort through these tapes, we believe the Foxes In The Boxes series offers a small trove of previously uncirculated material, along with upgrades and a few familiar outtake favorites from new source tapes. All of the outtakes, alternate mixes and takes found on Volume Three have never been released.

The series is titled Foxes In The Boxes in homage to its source: boxes of in-house cassette tapes obtained by JEMS from someone “on the inside” of a major record label in the ’70s and ’80s. It is also a rhyming nod to the bootleg Static In the Attic (Midnight Beat), which mined the same sessions for kindred material and to which we believe Foxes makes a worthy companion.

Some tracks in the series have been previously rumored to exist, some are wholly new finds, while others improve upon previously circulating versions. There are a few frustrating fragments, too, but what’s presented here is exactly what was on the tapes, which were seemingly meant to capture and present in-progress status of Stones sessions and to preserve ideas for future consideration. With that said, let’s go track by track through Volume Three:

Indian Girl: Shorter than any previously known version in circulation. The spoken line, “Mr. Gringo, my father he ain’t no Che Guevara” is missing and the take also features fewer horn overdubs.

Emotional Rescue: Again, shorter take than any previously known version. Distinctive and somewhat strange mix with much more guitar, keyboards and backing vocals. Also features an echoey percussion effect at the start not heard on any other mix.

No Use In Crying: Yet another new, shorter version compared to whatís in circulation. This is an edit of an early mix (before the piano overdub was added), which moves the line ìcome on sugarî earlier in the song because some of the falsetto vocals have been cut.

I Think Iím Going Mad: Listed on the tape under the slightly different title ìThink I’m Going Mad.î Yet another edit of an early version, which already has the saxophone in the intro but is still lacking the piano overdub. Several small changes in the first verse before the line, “All the highs and lows don’t mean a thing to me, don’t give a damn.î

Where The Boys Go: Different lead vocal from Mick on a take that has the male background vocals already in place, but not the girls’ backing chorus at the end. The guitar solo is also unedited unlike the album.

Summer Romance: Another alternate lead vocal on an uncirculated take that lacks the third guitar which normally begins in at 0:06.

Undercover Of The Night: A different, shorter mix, especially the opening of the song, which is totally unique to other mixes in circulation.

We Had It All: Cover of the Troy Seals and Donny Fritts song, first released by Waylon Jennings in 1973. Different lead vocal from the released version, but seemingly the same take as previously bootlegged versions of the song.

She Was Hot: Keyboard-heavy long mix, very similar to the version first leaked on WYSP FM Philadelphia in 1983 and later uploaded to the It’s Only Rock ‘n Roll Stones internet forum some time ago, but lacking the double-tracked vocals found on those, which presumably makes it an earlier mix of the alternate take.

Keep It Cool: The remarkable 20+ minute version posted to IORR by Bkeys in response to the release of the shorter version of Foxes Vol. One. His original was slightly off speed; here it is pitched-adjusted by Goody and remastered by JEMS to make it just a little bit better.

in 1963 for Art Garfunkel by Paul Simon and Art gives a beautiful redention of this anti-war song!

A very interesting and worthwhile, though not superb, collection of 27 live performances and outtakes, spanning 1966 through 1969.

There’s also a version of “Overs” with considerably different lyrics than the one that turned up on Bookends.
Then there are a few songs from a 1966 “studio rehearsal,” though the cover doesn’t say whether this is a recording, TV, or radio studio, and some of them sound like Paul Simon solo tracks, with no evidence of Garfunkel. Anyway, these too are noteworthy for including two songs that never appeared on their albums: the nice, folky ballad “I Wish You Could Be Here” and “Bad Blues Feeling,” the latter of which shows the influence of Simon’s 1965 stint in Britain with its Bert Jansch-type licks. Six songs from a 1966 BBC appearance again yield rarities with a cover of Tom Paxton’s “I Can’t Help But Wonder Where I’m Bound”; the anti-war “On the Side of a Hill,” which never made it onto any S&G albums; and
“A Church Is Burning,” which only came out on Paul Simon’s 1965 solo LP, The Paul Simon Song Book. The nine songs from a November 1969 concert don’t have any otherwise unavailable numbers, but do boast the best sound quality of anything on the CD. This bootleg isn’t solely notable for the rare compositions, though. The sound is very good at best and very listenable at worst. The performances are fine, and there are renditions of famous hits like “Homeward Bound,” “Sounds of Silence,” and “I Am a Rock” dotted throughout the program. ~

A new disc for the end of 1999, Village Vanguard gathers a lot of important material, some fairly common to the ROIO collector, some new to the more
“public” ROIO market.

The various studio outtakes and rehearsals have appeared before on other releases in the same sound quality.
The most striking of these is “Overs,” which has a unique organ line and very early lyrics – vastly diferent from the final version of the song.

It’s nice to get “Bad News Feeling” and “I Wish You Could Be Here” with Paul Simon performing – the latter is more commonly available in a version by The Cyrkle.
The highlight of this disc is the 9 November 1969 material. This concert, performed a few days prior to the Miami University show and immediately after the wrap of principal recording for Bridge Over Troubled Water, has a high energy level. This show was likely the first live performance of “Song For The Asking,” as Artie notes that Paul “just finished” the song. Unlike the Miami University show, there is no backing band here, likely due to the fact that studio recording tookplace in Los Angeles the day before this show. The recording quality of this section is the best on the disc, though not as clean as that of the aforementioned Miami U. show.

The other material on this disc – the “Sing Out” TV show and the BBC programme – are well-done, though the recording quality is typical of any off-air recording of the time: fairly low-fidelity, but quite listenable.
