Source: this is an audience recording, graciously sent to me by fellow Dime member “cre001”. Per his description:

“Cassette Transferred using a Yamaha KX-480 tape deck. Dolby off and playtrim at the neutral position.
The transfer was direct into Audacity using the internal 16 bit audio card. Recorded as 32/96 into Audacity and then
exported as 16/44 flac. No processing such as normalising or splitting performed.”

Additional source notes: “Cre001” provided this recording to me as one long file, transferred to me losslessly. I then
used Audacity to separate the recording into individual tracks, and then converted the files to FLAC using Trader’s Little
Helper.

Sound quality: A-

Tracks:

  1. Hey Jack Kerouac
  2. Maddox Table
  3. A Campfire Song

  7. What’s the Matter Here?
  8. Don’t Talk
  9. Scorpio Rising
  10. Among the Americans
  11. The Latin One
  12. Cherry Tree
  13. Verdi Cries
  14. Go Song Go (unreleased instrumental)

Description:

First and foremost, all credit for this upload goes to fellow Dime member “cre001”, who graciously contacted me and offered
to send his copy of two live shows that he had purchased at a U.K. record fair in the late 1980s (photos included). His
detailed transfer information is listed under “source”, above. It’s also worth mentioning that cre001’s audio expertise
greatly outstrips my own, and I appreciate his high-quality transfer and thorough source notes.

The Maniacs only played 6 shows on this short November 1987 tour of the U.K., and they seem to have made some interesting
song choices (at least based on the two shows provided by cre001). Of greatest significance, this show includes a late-era
version of “The Latin One” and a performance of the unreleased instrumental “Go Song Go”

The Wishing Chair Anniversary flood is coming to an end!

I’m in the process of uploading a few additional recordings
that weren’t in my collection when I began uploading
the “flood”. Three recordings were generously provided
by fellow Dime member “cre001”, and two more were obtained
from another site.

This particular show was unidentified, aside from “November 1987”. However, due to the avalanche of 10,000 Maniacs information provided by Dime member “PaleSun” (who has enough Maniacs info. to fill a small book), I was able to identify this show as being from Leicester on November 9. It’s from the soundboard (not FM), and though it’s certainly several generations from the master source, it still sounds great. That being said, it’s clear that some edits have been made between songs, probably just to eliminate longer stretches of audience noise.

Of greatest significance, this show includes a late-eraversion of “Just As the Tide Was a’Flowing”, which was played very infrequently after the end of the “Wishing Chair” tour.

This is an in-studio session recorded for the BBC’s Andy Kershaw in September 1987. The performances are fairly standard,
although it’s interesting that “Poison in the Well” was still being performed both live and at this in-studio session,
given that it would not be released until the “Blind Man’s Zoo” album in 1989.

10,000 Maniacs’ “The Wishing Chair” L.P. will celebrate its 30th anniversary this year
(original release date – September 23, 1985). Since it seems apparent that the Maniacs
are not being given the remaster / bonus tracks / box set treatment that they so richly
deserve, I’ve decided to upload all of my 70+ live and rare 10,000 Maniacs recordings
during the coming weeks. Although many of these recordings will be re-seeds of previous
Dime torrents, a substantial number have never appeared on the Dime (and many others
haven’t been shared since the Dime’s previous incarnation as “easytree.org” circa 2005).

Enjoy!

Another installment of Dylan arcana — or maybe this one is apocrypha. Two takes of “You Ain’t Goin’ Nowhere,” with McGuinn the dominant vocalist, and somebody with a vaguely Dylanesque vocal style seemingly audible from time to time, not so prominently. Might be Dylan. Could be Petty. Could be somebody in the band goofing around; members of Dylan’s NET bands have been said to do their own faux-Bob vocals at soundchecks. This is a fully realized arrangement, not just a let’s-try-this-out moment. I’m not aware of McGuinn playing this at any dates on the “Temples In Flames” tour (and maybe somebody has better info than I do) ; so this could have been a possible alternate for the Petty/McGuinn “RocknRoll Star” duet, or even the Dylan/McGuinn “Chimes Of Freedom”. Several folks whose opinions I respect don’t include this in their Dylan discographies, and they certainly had access to it — so that’s a few strikes against Bob performing here. On the other hand, the taper, or somebody near him, comments “That’s Dylan” as the song begins, so maybe they saw him onstage. Or just got the ID wrong. You make the call. The Queens of Rhythm provide some surprisingly convincing country harmonies.

Sound quality isn’t great, a bit distant, but certainly listenable.
