OldNeumanntapr Notes-
My friend Mark used to host the Lord Buckley Memorial Celebration, which was always held at Camp San Marcos just North of Santa Barbara in the Santa Ynez Valley. This is also the venue where the ‘Live Oak Music Festival’ is held every June. The Lord Buckley Memorial Celebration was a private party that one had to buy into by purchasing a button from Mark to be pinned on your shirt. It was a two-day event with overnight camping and several live bands would play throughout the weekend. The local SLO County band ’Sky Dogs’, a Grateful Dead / Allman Brothers cover band, would always headline, and everyone would bring their own ‘party’ favors. (Listen to the opening announcement and rambles track for clues.) This set, of Celtic music, was one of my favorite sets to record. I did a matrix recording with my Nakamichi CM-300 cardioids together with a feed from Little Jack’s Yamaha 16 channel mixing board. Jack was a dwarf, who used to be the house sound man for the San Luis Obispo Blues Society. His board was old, and came out of a club in Los Angeles that had been torn down. It had dust in the sliders, because it was stored in a barn and we used to use it outdoors at venues like this, but it really had good analog sound. I gave Mark a copy of this CD to pass along to David Nigel Lloyd and from what I remember hearing, David was really pleased that this show was recorded, because apparently not long after someone in his band had died. There is a slight bit of delay because the audience mics were set up next to the board and not onstage. My cables were not long enough to reach the stage, and we were set up on a hill behind the dance area. (None of the names were changed, because no one was innocent.) 😉
