BobTalk (from Olof’s Chronicles):

Thank you! I was really honored, …, last year the Amnesty Tour
chose a Bob Dylan song as their theme song. A song called “Chimes
Of Freedom”. This year, to my great surprise, they chose another
Bob Dylan song. Actually that one was last year, “I Shall Be Released”
was the one they chose this year. Anyway, I guess they’re gonna have
another Amnesty Tour next year. I think they’re gonna use another Bob Dylan song called “Jokerman”. But I’m trying to get them to change their mind, trying to get them to use this one. (before In The Garden ).

i combined the two parts each representing one side of a cassette
-raised volume level
-balanced channels
-removed some taper noise and coughs
-there are occasional speed glitches
-there are many stops after the applause – esp in the second half
-smoothed some hard transitions
-tracked and flaced

overall a good enough recording for its age

Many, many thanks to the dutch long time TH + TTC fan Hans Devente, (Madtaper) for this recording !!!!!!!!!!

He´s a good friend with the bands over 30 years……..

I got in contact with Hans some months ago.

I was very proud to get his TH tape collection in wave format, after he posted some mp3 stuff on a blog.

Anyway. I gave him some money for his work to transfer all the tapes.

He has a fantastic collection all over he years and most of them never saw the light before !!!!!

Some more stuff will come, and this one is the 4th.

BTW: I made 15 tracks out of that wave file and “I Zimbra” includes the “Intro” (it was better to cut) and “Houses In Motion” is in 2 tracks (pert 1 & 2).

So: SHARE & ENJOYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY

Patch fix of shnid 20377

Main Source:
Acoustic: PreFM>MSR>R>C>DAT>WAV>SHN
Electric: MSR>R>C>DAT>WAV>SHN

C>SHN Conversion by Cousinit

Patch Sources:
Master AUD: (Sony ECM-280/D-5) Cass> PCM> ZA2> CD > EAC > SHN(shnid 1955)
except for part of drums (see below), which was patched with the
AUD audio source from the circulating DVD (no source info given).

Edit: SHNs > WAV > Cool Edit 2000/Cool Edit Pro > shntool > FLAC

The following corrections were made (see below for details):

– all tracks put back in phase by reinverting left channel in CE 2K
– multiple dropouts, splices, etc. patched
– first three tracks of second electric set put at end of CD 2 to allow
CD3 to fit on one disc. Disc change between CDs 2 and 3 is seamless.
– SBD from 1:32 of GDTRFB to end of the show is higher-pitched; this was
corrected in CE Pro (stretched 100.383%) so speed and pitch matched the
rest of the show. It sounds like it was either patched in from an
alternate SBD or played back on a different deck.

Patches:

1st set aud was time/pitch stretched 100.7% in CE Pro and volume matched
as closely as possible on a patch by patch basis.

– 8:30-8:33 of Birdsong, patch vol. raised 4 dB
– :46-1:16 in Ripple (noise envelope applied from 0:55.638 to 0:56.016 to
prevent clipping after raising patch source 3.1 dB).
– Fade at the end of Ripple was made longer and more gradual
– dropouts in Rooster at 8:26, 8:56-58, and 8:59. patch dropped 1.1 dB
– :27 to :57 of Brown Eyed Woman
– one sec dropout at 2:17 in Lost Sailor
– dropout at 6:25 of Franklin’s
– Most of drums from :25 to 10:32 patched with the circulating AUD, with
the following exceptions: 11 dropouts from 6:00 to 7:28 patched with AUD
from circulating DVD (no shnid). Also, the circulating AUD was a
veritable Swiss cheese from 7:54 – 10:32, most likely due to bad audio
extraction. I was certain that to patch that many dropouts so close
together would sound worse than the original, since the two AUD sources
sound so different, so I just patched that whole section with the DVD
AUD. The DVD AUD source was deliberately recorded via analog from my
DVD player to my Tascam HD-P2 so as to avoid any possible extraction
errors.
– Break at 1:32 in GDTRFB patched with AUD, fade in right after dropout
was reversed. Sudden increase in volume from 2:11-2:13 also patched with
AUD, as increase caused irreparable distortion. AUD time/pitch stretched
99.188% to match SBD. SBD from first break to end of show time/pitch
stretched to 100.383%.
– mini dropout in right channel at 2:21 in Good Lovin’ patched with AUD.
Splice patched from 2:22-2:51. AUD time/pitch stretched 99.188% and
raised +1.1 dB, noise envelope of -1.1 dB applied to peak at 2:24 to
prevent clipping.

Many thanks to Charlie Miller for his advice on determining which channel
to reinvert. Thanks to Cousinit for the SBD source and his flaw notes,
also mcole, Charles Weir, drgseeds and Deadhead for their SBD source
comments and Charles (?) for his AUD source comment on the drums track.
Last but not least thanks to Jim Wise for his excellent audience patch
source, as well as to (?) for circulating the DVD of this show, which
provided part of drums.

Transfer (November 2009) and mastering (October 2017) by Alan Bershaw

Notes:
This is a previously uncirculated soundboard direct recording of this show. It was recorded in mono onto two 10″ 1/4 track reels at 7.5ips. It is 100% complete, from John Scher’s introduction prior to the acoustic set right through to the P.A. music following the 3rd set encore. All three sets run seamlessly with nothing missing.

This was recorded surreptitiously from a monitoring feed in one of the executive offices at RCMH. This entire recording is a single source, with the lone exception of a 29 second sequence (during Althea 4:28 -> 4:57), where the reels were changed. My old friend Kieth Gatto’s audience recording (id 120537) was used to patch that song to completion.

The only other downside is that Garcia’s vocal could be brighter and louder at times. It is otherwise a very clear recording that captures everything relatively well, including a lot of stage banter between songs. You can even hear the hilarious off-mic banter between band members. I usually don’t bother tracking out the downtime, but since its not just crowd noise and at times lengthy, I did in this case.

I’ve wanted to share this recording for a long time, but a track or two was officially released and the bonus tracks on the Dead Ahead DVD are also sourced from this show, so it prevented me from sharing this at the usual places. My nephew Stu, who often shares my recordings for me, tried making a case for it being an alternate source and different mix than anything that was officially issued, but it was a no go.

I’d like nothing better than to get this to anyone who’d enjoy it, especially since only audience recordings seem to circulate, but maybe sharing it now will at least get that ball rolling. Alan – October 2007

Original SBD Notes:
EAC/SHN by Darryl Hinko (flyerfanatic)
EAC in secure mode with proper offsets used to extract
SHNtool to join and confirm sector boundries
CDwav used to split tracks
Cool Edit used for all editing

Remastering Notes:
The SBD I got in SHN format. All patches are redone with mixpaste and
cross fades. I used a stereo expander and multiband compressor in
remastering of the entire show. The original SBD bands were to narrow.
D1t01 Patch preformed from 1:20-1:27.
No other edits far as pops, static, etc. were preformed.

Remastering by T. Wiley 08/15/2003.

Another Installment Of The Music Never Stopped Project!
