Notes/Flaws:
– According to Andy Lemieux, “the old version, which was
often mislabelled MSR>DAT, was actually MSR>Cass. x 3>DAT>CDR.
This new copy is a significant upgrade over that version.”
– t01 Candyman cuts in
– t11 FOTD unfixable drop @ 1:55, common to this lineage, was
patched over from the old source using Sound Forge Studio 6.0.

LB-3668, (71min+59min), from lk fall 80 set; has strong hiss band except on last two songs; otherwise looks like same recording source throughout but has the obvious patch at d1t3 1:20 where quality improves;; this is same rercording as LB-476 based on similar cuts except this one sounds more muffled on vocals; the majority of this is below 7k except for the hiss band and noise and a little that gets up to 14k while LB-476 goes up to 12k strongly and then a little up to 14k followed by more noise which comes off as more hiss but has more easily heard vocals with more natural sound;; the first 2 and half songs are of quality between LB-3419 and LB-3418 (did not listen to all of this)

notes from the original uploader:
This has circulated as 5-29-69, though it seems much more likely to be from the 11th. Deadbase lists Canned Heat & Santana as sharing the billing with the Dead for the 11th. Deadlists.com lists a partial setlist for 5-11-69, from Dew through Schoolgirl. A radio announcer can briefly be heard speaking of Canned Heat during the Cryptical Reprise. The guests almost certainly include multiple percussionists from Santana, their singer briefly during Lovelight, and some guitar from Carlos Santana, though his contributions seem low in the mix and infrequent.

The lineage is unknown, although the radio announcers would indicate this being from a radio broadcast. There are probably several analog generations, but quality improves towards the end and is listenable. There is a brief dropout in volume level during the Cryptical Reprise. The first few notes of Me & My Uncle have been clipped as radio announcers were talking. The cut at the beginning of Alligator is minor.

Many thanks to the taper and artworker.
Van has played San Diego 4 times but this is the first one in 47 years. This may explain why the crowd was so boisterous. Unfortunately the taper had his hands full with noisy fans around him. He attempted to quiet them down but really to no avail.
At 2 minutes in he tells them politely I came to hear Van Morrison-not you. The woman near him had to go to the bathroom before the concert started but her mate told  her to wait till 9:30 after the concert finished. This does not appear on the recording but maybe that was why she is so boisterous???
This is still a very well recorded concert with Van in fine form.
He does very nice versions of Little Village and Foreign Window early in the show. Later he does a nice version of Stoned Me. He does the best Game I’ve heard in a few years.
All in all a very good concert.
