The time is coming my friends. A few days ago I finished compiling all the CDs in my fourth, and last book. This leaves a spindle and a half (about 150 CDs) to go through plus all of my Grateful Dead shows (probably 200-300 CDs.) Oh, and I also have maybe two dozen Jerry Garcia Band shows from 1980 on my hard drive. That may sound like a lot but I’d give it two months before they all run out. After that it will be nothing but what I get in torrents and trades.
When I started going through my spindles I realized a couple of things. One, I have already compiled some of the shows. Way before I started compiling anything, I randomly went through my bootleg collection and ripped them to my hard drive for my listening pleasure. These became some of the first boots I compiled. Two, some of the CDs from my books are missing. I’m pretty sure many of the missing disks are in those spindles. But because I have so many it is a pain to try to make that determination.
I am now systematically going through my books and cross-referencing them with my master list so that at any given time, I can look at the list and find out where the disks are located. This is a much-needed project on its own, but it will also help me find all the missing disks. While I am doing this, I don’t want to mess with the spindles and so the plan is to only compile shows I’ve gotten from torrents or the aforementioned JGB shows (plus I have another dozen or so Grateful Dead shows from 1970.)
I have no idea how long this project will take. I’d guess a couple of weeks, but that’s a really rough estimate. Anyways, enjoy the Neil Young.
