From the uploader:
Here’s the deal… There are multiple versions of this 12/31/73 show in circulation. The most common (and the only one that I’ve seen) is supposed to be from the Pre FM reels (which were most likely damaged, keep reading). On the heavily circulated version there were numerous flaws, most were either digital noise or clipping. A new transfer was just done from a Reel To Reel FM Master. This new FM master did not have any of the flaws that were present on the common “Pre FM” version, but FM Master was of slightly lesser quality.
The solution? Small portions of the new FM master were spliced into the higher quality version when there was digital noise, clipping, etc. Those defects have now been eliminated. The splicing was done well, at most points it’s unnoticeable, but there were a couple of splices that didn’t line up perfectly, one of those would be the splice that provides the intro to Liz Reed. Either way, this show sounds much better than it did before, and it’s the best source I know of to be in circulation.
Here are some of the other edits that were done… There was digital noise in some of Bill Graham’s band intro, this was spliced in OK from the other copy. Various count-ins were slightly clipped, but are now spliced in seamlessly. These are usually when KSAN DJ’s talk, those short station ID’s have also been put back in. The KSAN announcer’s (Tom Donahue) count-in at New Year’s was similarly clipped, this has been restored, clipped notes at the beginning of Jessica have also been restored. There were many other additional edits, but you get the picture.
Thanks a million for this excellent show and your generous effort to make it possible for me to hear it. I’ve been a visitor to your site many times. It is the best! I apologize for not commenting before now(naughty) but
promise to be better.
Hello. This has always been one of my favorite bootleg shows. In fact I credit this show with giving me the fever to collect bootlegs. I am truly happy to be getting a FLAC upgrade of this wonderful show.
PS..I dont know itf its going to ruin the download, but part 8 in FLAC is taking me to megaupload and not working.
It is a killer show. Mediafire will only do 200 mb files and as it turns out the Bo Diddley>Mountain Jam track is bigger than that so I had to put it on Megaupload. Unfortunately Megaupload is often screwy with files making some go offline for a bit before they put them back up so try it again later today. If its not up by Thursday leave me another comment and I’ll try to upload it elsewhere.
Wow, this looks AWESOME! Thanks Mat for all the shows you post, I’ll enjoy this one.
Thanks for sharing another great concert- your work is really appreciated!
Thanks very much for posting all the great shows. For some reason I am unable to download successfully the last three segments of this show – parts IX, X and XI (Flac). Anyone having the same issue? Thanks
Give it a day and try again Andrew. I’ve found that these problems are usually solved with a little time. If it still doesn’t work by Monday leave me another note.
Also, what specifically is the problem? Is the link not coming up at all? Will it simply not download or does it get stuck in the middle of a download? Or is it a problem with the files once you’ve downloaded? Or something else?
Andrew, I’m also having a problem but with Part XI only. When I decode it in TLH I get an error message:
error while transferring data ( likely file is truncated or otherwise corrupt, or disk is full.)
Since my disc isn’t full, I think the file is corrupt. All the others decoded fine.
And like others have said, thanks so much for posting such great shows!
Rich or Andrew or anyone can you tell me exactly what songs are involved in the problem file? Let me know and I’ll rezip them and reupload.
Hey Matt, thanks so much – in my case it was Mountain Jam, track 5 on disc 4 (the last track of the set).
In Andrew’s case, it should be: Bo Diddley > Mountain Jam > Bo Diddley (Disc 3, Track 4) and Save My Life (Disc 4, Track 1). The last track is the same one I had a problem with.
Everything else sounds great!
DLed Xl again and it extracted fine this time. Mat, thanks again so much – I’ve had SEVERAL other versions of this show and this is by far the best sounding. Most of the others had severe cuts in them. This is seamless.
Kudos!
So you’ve got the whole show now?
Yup. Thanks!
part VIII (megaupload) should be reloaded again.

Big thank you for this one! Good grief!
:O)
Thanks so much for putting up this show! Been looking for shn or flac files for a while now!
Many thanks for this version of 31/12/73. I will give it a blast later. I was trying to download the Syracuse concert. It appears to be their in filefactory. I have filefactory premium but as I clicked to download it just kept whirling around. Any chance you make it available in Amazon drive please Mat. Any chance of more ABB shows being posted.
