I spent the last few days doing a whole lot of downloading. Too much, actually. My ISP only gives me 1 TB of bandwidth per month before they charge me extra (and they are already charging me way too much). Normally I come close to hitting it, but manage to stay under it. Because I downloaded too much stuff this week my normal activities will probably drive me over that limit, so I’m gonna slow things down for a few days in terms of what I upload.
But I’m still going to be posting quite a bit. I’m finding that I really like posting each shows info. Doing the daily posts where I linked to whatever I had uploaded on my Amazon Drive saved me a lot of time, but it somehow felt lacking. Now that I’m back to posting the shows individually (and then adding them once again to the artists pages – something I really love) I’m gonna spend some time going back through those old Shows of the Day posts and individual post the info to each show if that makes sense.
So you’ll be seeing a lot of new posts that are actually just posting the info to shows I’ve already shared via the Amazon Drive. I hope you all like seeing the individual show info as much as I enjoy putting them out there.
Is it weird that I really enjoy the administration part of this hobby? Like there is something soothing about organizing my collection and filling in missing shows, and putting everything into a spreadsheet.
Not weird at all. It would be great to make a living doing it……
No doubt. If you find that job opening let me know 🙂
I kinda enjoy that too. I make a list of all concerts per year in excel (with date, venue, city) and then try to collect them all. This will probably keep me busy for many years, but i’m retired (a year ago or so) and this makes a nice hobby. I must try to find some time to listen to the concerts too. If somebody is interested in the excel lists (dylan, young, springsteen, stones, elvis) please let me know. Not all finished yet, but still working on it.
I’d love to see your lists. I’m always interested in seeing how others organize things.
Ben, I’d too see your Stones, and Young list please
Mat, I just wanted to say thanks to you for once again posting the lists with each show. It really makes it a lot easier to evaluate the contents of each show, especially since as you have pointed out, we are unable to open the text files before we download at Amazon. So if it’s fun for you to create these it’s a great addition for folks like me too! Thank you!
You are welcome. I really like doing it this way as well. I stopped because WordPress has become a real hassle to use, bit I think I’ve figured it out well enough to at least get the text files and links in place.
I will say though on those old posts you can download just the text file and read it to give you some indication of whats in each show.
Mat, you’re an archivist. that’s what you do. Music Appricianado (spic) & archivist. I thank you & all The Midnight Cafeers thank you.
I’m just happy to give back to a community that has given me so much.
Mat, just wanted to throw in my two cents and say that I’m glad to see the return of the individual posts. I appreciate any way that you decide to share the music, but as others have said it is easier to evaluate the shows this way.
I totally understand your feelings toward organizing your music. People used to occasionally make fun of me because my CDs were always organized alphabetically by artist and chronologically within each artist. I also used to work in record / book stores, so I was able to (sort of) make a living by organizing music, although sadly it was not my music…
