Oldneumanntapr Notes:

The Anaconda is no more. Fortunately, I was able to see / record two shows there in early 1992. This the first time that I had seen ‘Mr Lucky’, John Lee Hooker. It was in a little club in Isla Vista (near Santa Barbara and where the UCSB campus is located). The Anaconda used to be The Graduate, and before that it was a Bank Of America that ended up getting torched during the Vietnam War, from what I’m told. I saw two shows at the Anaconda, this one and Bo Diddley a month earlier. At one of those shows, I can’t remember which, I saw a blind man taping with Nakamichi CM-300s out in the open. Strange. John Lee Hooker put on a good show, but you could tell that in years past he had more energy. He did a lot of vocals and not that much of his signature ‘slashing’ guitar work. Still, it was good to see a legend. The tape still sounds pretty good, even by today’s standards. He played for about an hour and then signed autographs.
I wish now that I would have used the Nakamichi CM 300s like i did for Bo Diddley a month earlier. I don’t remember why I didn’t, but I do remember that it was really foggy going home that night. My friend Dave got an album signed after the show.
