Oldneumanntapr Notes:

The Anaconda is no more. Fortunately, I was able to see / record two shows there in early 1992. This the first time that I had seen ‘Mr Lucky’, John Lee Hooker. It was in a little club in Isla Vista (near Santa Barbara and where the UCSB campus is located). The Anaconda used to be The Graduate, and before that it was a Bank Of America that ended up getting torched during the Vietnam War, from what I’m told. I saw two shows at the Anaconda, this one and Bo Diddley a month earlier. At one of those shows, I can’t remember which, I saw a blind man taping with Nakamichi CM-300s out in the open. Strange. John Lee Hooker put on a good show, but you could tell that in years past he had more energy. He did a lot of vocals and not that much of his signature ‘slashing’ guitar work. Still, it was good to see a legend. The tape still sounds pretty good, even by today’s standards. He played for about an hour and then signed autographs.
I wish now that I would have used the Nakamichi CM 300s like i did for Bo Diddley a month earlier. I don’t remember why I didn’t, but I do remember that it was really foggy going home that night. My friend Dave got an album signed after the show.

Oldneumanntapr Notes:
This was the first time that I had seen a show at the Anaconda, which was previously known as the Graduate. Before that it started out life as the Isla Vista Bank Of America, (and was torched in the Viet Nam era from what I’m told.) The Anaconda was located in Isla Vista, near Santa Barbara and where the UCSB campus is located. Bo Jammed a lot that night, with one song being over 22 minutes long. The recording sounds pretty good. I returned there a month or so later and taped John Lee Hooker, which was also good. The Anaconda is long gone, but at least I was able to record two blues shows there.
