OldNeumanntapr Notes-

This was the first time that I’d seen/recorded Asleep At The Wheel. They put on a good show and were a good opening act. This show has been traded individually a couple of times but never uploaded.

FAN-MADE PROJECT – NOT FOR SALE

“Alone and Far Away” is a compilation of exceptional performances from Pearl Jam’s 2000 tour of Europe,
which marked the beginning of their official bootleg series 20 years ago. These bootlegs were originally
issued unmastered with an odd balance, anemic equalization and low volume levels. These issues have been
fixed for this compilation, which is dedicated to all the comedians at the Red Mosquito Forum.

Original audio recorded and mixed by Brett Eliason.
Assistant engineer John Burton.
Design concept by J.A.

Show Notes (thanks to Five Horizons):
The first homecoming show. In ‘Long Road’ Ed sings, “And the skies are always grey…” Ed also mentions that sometimes it’s nice to play a show with your house key in your pocket. He later talks about how the typical Seattle weather seemed to follow them around the tour, mentioning Phoenix, Las Vegas, San Diego. ‘Crown of Thorns’ (once again, to everyone’s surprise) is introduced as “a song that’s older than me.” Ed and Jeff were playing this game all night, they have been doing all these jumps in tandem for the past couple of shows, but tonight they kept trying to psych each other out and pretend one was going to jump, but then they wouldn’t, and start laughing. Someone had brought a huge “VOTE BUSH” banner and hung it from the 200 level; it was removed by two industrious fans before PJ took the stage. Between ‘DTE’ and ‘Insignificance’ Ed acknowledges the previous existence of the banner and said that he couldn’t believe it, and that “Just for tonight, I hope they took them out back and roughed them up a little.” The members of Supergrass were brought out and thanked, and Gary and Ed trade verses on ‘Timeless Melody.’ WARNING – X-rated notes ahead: Afterward, Ed says, “I have a bigger cock than Flea and Patrick Ewing combined, but I don’t want to brag.” Mike illustrates this by holding his hands out to give us a visual. (This was referencing a comment Flea made earlier about how he heard that [new Seattle Sonic] Patrick Ewing had the biggest cock in Seattle, except that now he was in town.) April Cameron and Justine Foy are brought out (with hugs from Ed) to perform the string arrangement for ‘Parting Ways.’ After “Parting Ways,” Jeff grabs Ed’s wine bottle, takes a LONG swig, and then hands it over to Matt, who does likewise. ‘Ledbetter’ is lavishly tagged with ‘Little Wing’ (and there is a Jimi Hendrix photo, torn out of a magazine, taped to Mike’s amp). Really strong, powerfully played show. On the setlist but not played: ‘In Hiding’ and ‘The Kids Are Alright.’

Show Notes (thanks to Five Horizons/TwoFeetThick):
After ‘Red Mosquito’ Ed addresses the crowd, saying it’s a beautiful night, beautiful day – he’d forgotten he had to work that evening, “but this doesn’t feel like work.” He thanks someone for driving him around all day, looking for waves that apparently didn’t exist. “The only thing that was breaking was my heart.” Before ‘Even Flow,’ Ed says “This is a song called ‘Paralyzed Big Baby.'” The crowd is singing along with ‘Not For You’ and Ed changes it to “small my table, seats just one …”. A bright, long-lasting shooting star is sighted by many in the crowd during ‘MFC,’ resulting in loud cheering. The improv before ‘Habit’ which relates to ‘Habit’ the way ‘Untitled’ relates to ‘MFC’: “I’m paralyzed, I’m in your eye. I’m not afraid of dying, ’cause I’ve got time …” The “speaking as…” break in ‘Habit’ is “sending a message to the surf gods.” During ‘RVM,’ Jeff and Ed do an extended forward lean into each other [did anyone get a photo of this?!]. Ed throws his guitar in the air and misses catching it on the way down, but it doesn’t land hard. When they return for the encore, Ed toasts the crowd, and says the band is fortunate to have thismany people who want to listen to their music. During ‘Go,’ Mike plays the guitar behind his head and Edswings the mic, which is becoming as normal as him fucking up the words to ‘Even Flow’ (which he does tonight). During ‘RITFW,’ someone throws a tshirt onstage and Ed puts it on. It reads: “No Bush 2000.”
