– Other sources for this day exist for some of the sets.
– Each source has been previously individually circulated.
– The Electric Hot Tuna set does exist, but I’ve yet to locate the Acoustic Hot Tuna, John Wesley Harding or Alvin Youngblood Hart sets.
– The well is running dry on locating any new or additional Furthur Festival sets. If you have any kicking around out there on DAT, Cassette or CD let me know at thefurthurproject@gmail.com. I’m happy to do any transfers. There are still many missing sets.

* Corrections/modifications:

– Speed correction + 4.2%
– Increased Left Channel gain with 1.8 dB on Disc 1
– Decreased Left Channel gain with 2.5 dB on Disc 2

Notes:

A bit distant but very good sounding, stereo audience recording sourced from unknown gen analog transferred to CDR which I downloaded in 2006. It suffered from fast speed and slight channel imbalance which I corrected for this seed. Obviously, the recording had been done on a 90 mins Cassette as there’s a cut around 45 mins on each side which unfortunately means that the last part of Amazing Journey and Sparks are missing on the first side as well as the last part of Naked Eye and the conclusion of the show on the second. There’s an additional cut after Heaven And Hell, maybe the taper wanted to save time at first and then decided to just let the tape run to the end. I am not aware of other sources so it looks like we will sadly never hear the full show. And a great show it is!

From The Who Concert File by Joe McMicheal and ‘Irish’ Jack Lyons:

The band played the first of two shows in a poorly ventilated, privately owned ballroom. The Who were denied use of Red Rocks Amphitheatre by the City of Denver at the time because of a ban on hard rock shows at the famous outdoor venue. I Don’t Even Know Myself was introduced into the set on this night and Sally Simpson was played here for the last time until 1989. The two concerts in Denver grossed $ 45,000 in a city they had almost skipped altogether on this month-long tour.

* This seed is an upgrade over all circulating copies. The reel tape
wascarefully transferred by Gerhard Schinzel, reducing the speed
problems that marred previous copies. Gerhard has had a 1st
generation copy off Richard Wethey’s master recording since 1976.
* The first seconds of Dire Wolf and Dark Star are cut.
* The d2t8 jam cuts off.
* About 2 minutes are missing from the beginning of Man’s World.

The following are details of the tape speed correction that was
performed digitally.
The numbers express the amount of semitones the source tape ran too
fast:
* acoustic set: constant 0.4
* Gradual speed-up from 0.4 to 0.6 during Easy Wind & Cumberland,
* Dire Wolf: 0.6
* Dark Star: 0.5; almost constant
* Man’s World: varying between 0.4 to 0.5

The attribution of the 4/24/70 date to this tape is debatable.
Richard’s notes accompanying Gerhard’s reel copy do not mention any
specific day; the only information given is “Mammoth Gardens Denver
1970”, which leaves the choice between 4/24 and 4/25.
There is a newspaper article reviewing the second show; this article
is transcribed at http://www.mail-archive.com/deadlists@nemesis.cs.
berkeley.edu/msg02287.html . The fact that Man’s World appears on
this tape points to 4/25. Uli Teute writes on Deadlists, “I don’t
know how the 24th got attributed to what richard taped, but if he
taped the 24. and the newspaper article is correct that would make
3 DarkStars in a row (the 26th also has a Dark Star) – very
unlikely – plus the article matches our tape just perfect. maybe
we have the 25th. and do not know a bit about 4-24”.

Doc Watson is one of the best flat picker guitar players
Who has ever lived. And David Grisman might be the most
well known mandolin player around. Put them together
and it’s a special treat. This one didn’t come with a

-Bobby Read – saxophones, woodwinds, flute
-J. V. Collier – bass
-Doug Derryberry – guitar, mandolin
-Sonny Emory – drums

Note from the original uploader:
— Co-Headline with BÈla Fleck and The Flecktones
— Each band played one long set
— The Flecktones closed the show
— Prairie Dog Town featured Bruce on dulcimer
— Only the second half of White-Wheeled Limousine was played because they played pt.1 in KC at the previous show
— White-Wheeled Limousine contains “Black Rats of London” verses
— Cyclone was written with Robert Hunter
— Rainbow’s Cadillac has played (mostly) with Bruce on accordian
— At the end of the set, Bruce was standing on top of the piano playing his accordian

Editing Notes:
— Fades added at beginning and end of sets with Cool Edit Pro.
— Tracking done in CDWave.
— Sets are seamless.
— EAC was performed with offsets corrected in secure mode.
— All tracks were 100% error free when extracted with EAC.

— Removed countless, LOUD nearby claps by people standing right next to the mics.
These were mostly during the first two songs of the set.
You’ll still hear some claps as I only cleared the worst offenders
