Notes from original uploader:

This is another Muddy show I got as part of a large, multi-show folder at a now defunct, hobgoblin of a tracker. Many of these shows seem to be lightly circulated, mostly via etree trades, and I’ve not seen them on BT trackers. If you have seen them torrented before, I’d like to hear about it, please leave a comment. I’ve split these shows into seperate folders, and I’ve renamed files and added checksums and a new info text for each. Original info and EAC text files are included.

The following is a note on track 05 from this show’s listing at db.etree.org:
“still trying to figure out correct title – it’s Muddy’s hybrid of the Eddie Boyd ‘Look Over Yonder Wall’ and Howlin’ Wolf’s ‘Mr Highway Man’.” I will add the the “Mr. Highway Man” line was lifted by Wolf from Robert Johnson’s “Terraplane Blues”, and there are also elements of a song called “Highway 51”, not sure who wrote it, but I’ve seen it recorded by Bob Dylan and by “Spider” John Koerner. Otis Spann records this song as “Look Under My Bed,” onhis 1968/9 recording for Pete Welding’s Testament label. You’ll also hear some saxaphone before and during track 05, this appears to be an unsolicited contribution from an audience member.

NOTES from original uploader:

Bob’s 10th show in Berlin is a true escalation. Probably the best of all the 16 shows which has been played in October. The band play perfectly and so beautifully all over the show that all the performances are just simply tremendous. Most versions of songs are inspired – such as ‘Don’t Think Twice, It’s All Right,’ or ‘Every Grain Of Sand’ – and appearently presented in their best forms of their ’03 fall renditions. Yet in the opening song ‘To Be Alone With You,’ Bob sings with full vigour and hits the piano more and more intensively.

They are determined to rock. ‘It’s All Over Now, Baby Blue’ evolves and evolves and the band perfom another beautiful version of the song featuring a
mindblowing ending. I listened through carefully all seven ‘Desolation Row’ from this fall and in my opinion it’s just tops all (even if it lacks a certain verse). The way Bob sings and uses his harmonica and his bandmates’ work all the way through it, is mesmerizing.

The tour debut of ‘Can’t Wait,’ – which is between the powerful performances of ‘Most Likely You Go Your Way’ & ‘Highway 61 Revisited’ shows signs of brilliance. During ‘Most Likely..’ Bob mixes the words many places – seemingly in joy playing the tune along with Larry’s and Freddie’s genuine co-work.

Larry’s playing is – again – haunting during ‘Love Minus Zero/No Limit.’
No matter how long or short this review is I’m sure that all the beauty just can’t be put into words. So give a try, don’t hesitate cause it’s the blueprint of ’03 Fall.

Stranded In Berlin contains the live FM Radio 1 broadcast of Van Morrison’s Berlin show on May 19th, 2006.
The sound quality is crystal clear and as close to perfect as can be expected.
There is terrific balance between the instruments and there is no evidence of it being recorded off the air check. Another source for this broadcast circulates which some collectors claim has noticeable background noise.

The Swingin’ Pig use a different, far superior source that has none of the imperfections mentioned in connection with the other.
The broadcast omits Morrison’s band’s instrumental introduction “Boogie Woogie Country Girl” and begins at the beginning of “Keep Mediocrity At Bay” and Van’s introduction.
This show occurs two months after the release of his album of country and blues covers Pay The Devil and songs from this, and the latest album of originals Magic Time, are emphasized.
Better known songs like “Moondance” and “Cyprus Avenue” are not played with “Gloria” as an encore the only nod to the charts.

Morrison’s voice sounds good although smoky and aggressive with age.
Three of the first four songs come from the 2005 release before he plays “Your Cheatin’ Heart” in a rendition faithful to the Hank Williams original.
Afterwards Morrison introduces the Dutch alto-saxophonist Candy Dulfer
for a scorching version of “Naked In The Jungle” including sax solo.

The show really begins to cook with this, “Talk Is Cheap” and ”Cleaning Windows”.
The latter contains Morrsion getting into “Be-Bop-A-Lu-Lu” by the end.
“Irish Heartbeat” is followed by two more tunes from the latest album.
“What Am I Living For?” is played close to the well-known Conway Twitty arrangement.

“Playhouse” is one of three originals from the latest album and is an effective Morrison foray into the honky tonk.
Morrison has covered “I Can’t Stop Loving You” sporadically for twenty years and recorded the song for 1991’s Hymns To The Silence, but last year became a regular part of the set.
This version contains a great violin solo and a section sung by the Crawford Bell Singers.

“It’s All In The Game” is extended to seven minutes and contains a reference to “Keep A Knocking” and much laughter before Morrison introduces “Shake Your Money Maker” as a Sonny Boy Williamson tune.

The bonus tracks contain material from gigs on:
1st Bonus Track February 20th, 1979 at Whitla Hall, Belfast, Northern Ireland.
2nd Bonus Track from February 22nd, 1979 at National Stadium, Dublin, Ireland.

This Source comes from the Video Soundtrack to the Rare and Out Of Print Video of,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
Van Morrison In Ireland on Hendring and booted previously on “In All Your Revelation”.

The fifty-five minute recording is very clear but much thinner than the Berlin tape.
