Notes:
Circulating copies of this show have been plagued with numerous pops and discontinuities
that may have been imbedded during the original recording or during a PCM transfer.
Sound Forge was used to smooth these areas.
This recording is not in true stereo.
A bad connection in the equipment can be heard buzzing towards the end of Estimated.
Static and some distortion occur following this in He’s Gone.
Dropout in Ramble On Rose @ 5:31

This show starts a bit slow, but I would rate it pretty highly overall, especially the monster Let It Grow > Franklin’s to close the first set and the spectacular playing in the post-drums segment of the second.. Thanx!
We’ve had a break and rested up but now we’re back
rolling on the fall tour – excellent! Many thanks.
If there’s two of Dick’s picks I consistently reach for more
than any others it’s Englishtown and 29/12. So I guess this must
be one of my favourite times, but I must admit I don’t know many
of these shows so I’m really looking forward to checking them out
as and when they come 🙂
(I’m taking it for granted that you’re continuing your usual practice of
going forwards in chronological order!!
Rock on.
Yep I’m going forward chronologically until the end of 1977 and then I’ll move on to another year. I was thinking 1972 but I need to check too see how many shows from that year have actually not been officially released.
I know they did a big boxed set of Europe 72, but I think it was a limited run. Not sure what official policy for postings shows like that are, and I’ll have to give it some good thinking on.
Otherwise I’ll probably do 1969 or maybe take a poll on which post 70s year ought to be next.
Yeah do a poll 🙂
I’m almost 100% that Euro72 was ltd edition as a box set in
the big trunk only, but the individual shows are now all available
separately as CD.
Dick’s picks got September relatively well covered:
Sep 3rd, 17th, 21st, 27th.
The Download Series did a US 72 show, from July.
Plenty of gems still left I guess, like 18th November, Hofheinz Pavilion….
but I’m not really much of an expert….
If you ask me, if there’s a period which is a) very fertile, and b) not much
covered by official releases (relatively), and c) generally not very easily
available at all in good quality – it’s summer 73 through to summer 74.
By (c) I mean of course that I don’t have as much of it as I’d like!
Here endeth my campaign speech!
Nothing from the awesome November 1972 Texas tour has been released. Tony’s 1973-74 suggestion is also right on the money. Generally, I would stay with 1972-74 – the spaciest, jazziest, most cutting-edge Grateful Dead out there!
Thanks guys, I’ll probably make a new post asking for suggestions on what year to hit next once I’m done with 1977. I’ve still got a few more shows to go in that year so I’m guessing it will be a few weeks. Please make these same requests when you see that post.
