  1. Thanks Mat, a third Culloden date for me. An extremely middle class and non rock ‘n’ roll venue. Van seems to like venues of this type, I guess they pay well!

  2. True enough. There is a bigger pattern however of Van playing these very ‘genteel’ gigs in recent years. Book fairs, palaces etc. They never appeal to me, being excessivley overpriced, and full of a particular and extremely limited demographic. If you look closely at the audience for his 70th b’day ‘party’ you see something very similar.

    The ‘buzz’ has really gone out of a lot of ‘gigs’ in recent years. It’s like Mr EC holding court in the Royal Albert Hall and playing ‘Wonderful Tonight’ to a different, but somehow identical, collection of middle class nobodys night after night after night!

    1. I get that. Certainly I’d love to see Van playing other types of gigs in more places. Man I’d love for him to come within 500 miles of me. But I have a hard time knocking a guy of his age for playing cushy gigs close to home.
