I’m a sucker for British television. The wife and I usually subscribe to Acorn or Britbox – both streaming services focus on British shows. They make great murder mysteries, crime dramas, and comedies. British comedy is its own genre. It is so very different than American comedic sensibilities.
Mapp & Lucia is a very British comedy. I loved it when I reviewed the series out on DVD back in 2014.
“Completely inconsequential plot lines” is a perfect depiction. I wish there were more series based on absurd and inconsequential plots. I feel like I see too many show where the protagonist averts a nuclear war AND helps her child with a sticky high school social situation in the same episode. Absurd in a different way. So I stop watching. This is really a great series that nobody I know has heard about. Thanks.
Awesome to have found another fan.
I hate how so many movies have plot lines that are all about saving the world or the universe. Superhero movies are terrible at this. When the stakes are that high all of the time it loses meaning. Low stakes can be dramatic (and funny) as well.
Wow. With all the great British comedies out there, you choose this? I’ll be charitable and call it a deep cut 😉
