The tenth and penultimate volume in our overview of The Beatles’ live career brings us their brief 1966 World Tour and the end of the Beatles caring much about their performances. Still, the Munich and Tokyo shows are the last to survive in soundboard quality.

The unbooted Hamburg tracks are taken from a German radio broadcast. We’re very grateful they made their way to us.

The Disc One bonus tracks are a little unnecessary, since Track 33 is much longer than anything available previously. But the snippets are maybe a little better quality, so it’s all here, just in case you care.

Track 05 is just dead air between tracks, it also appears that tracks 7 & 8 should be just one track, but I left the tracks the way EAC ripped them rather than edit them.

27/11/70 – SUNSHINE IN, ASBURY PARK, NJ

Early Show: DANCING IN THE STREETS (13:49)
DO IT NOW (13:15)
I CAN’T TAKE IT (9:07)
OH MAMA (4:25)
CHANGE IT (9:58)
I GOTTA BE FREE – TURN ON YOUR LOVELIGHT (11:27)
TRAIN RIDE (13:49)

TWO shows, triple bill, with the bottom-billed STEEL MILL opening for the 2nd billed CACTUS and headliner BLACK SABBATH (fronted by a spooked Ozzy Osbourne, who received death threats before the show). The above-mentioned 7-song, setlist comes from a very recently surfaced excellent audio quality soundboard and represents the complete 76-minute performance from the early show, with no continuity breaks in the audio. This is not Steel Mill at its best, but it does contain the previously uncirculating “Do It Now”. The original master tape had the recording date on it and, additionally, there is verifying commentary by Robbin Thompson during the performance. About 8 minutes into “Dancing” the generator power fails for 12 seconds, much to the frustration of Bruce who comments “we must be the Guinea Pigs here tonight”. According to an attendee recollection each of the three bands played similar length sets. After the end of the evening Springsteen spent about an hour backstage jamming with Cactus bassist Tim Bogart. There is no circulating audio from the late show.

36 Everybody’s Trying To Be My Baby

The ninth volume in our ‘all the good titles are taken already’ overview of The Beatlesí live career. This brings us to the end of their second U.S. tour and, unfortunately, to the end of the surviving 1965 shows. Weíd love to hear it a tape from their December British tour.

Most of these recordings already sounded fine, although the less said about Minneapolis the better. Even so, we still ran our proprietary audio clean-up system. We think the re-edit and re-eq of the afternoon San Fransisco show is the most significant improvement.

Our Hollywood Bowl Deluxe Edition has different edits/mixes, but these are the unedited stereo tapes of the 1965 Hollywood Bowl shows. (We also fixed a tape stretch in I Feel Fine on the 30th. Wow.)

There will be, and are, other recordings of this show. Saw one guy off to the side in the front row taping, that should be a nice up front sounding capture. Saw a guy recording from the balcony, and there is one from the center but further back already on etree. Don’t know what will be the best, but I do know none will have the absolute dead center recording spot this one does. I was in row H, with my head right even with the bass drum, as centered as centered could be. The recording sounds a bit more distant than I would like/expect from such a close proximity to the stage. They were running a bit of a stereo mix, or I was getting that effect from the stage monitors, and I believe Jecklin Head captured that pretty well. I gotta say, the sound was lacking a bit of something, for one Nels’ guitar was low and Jeff’s vocals were a bit buried at first. Things improved as the show progressed. Nice show. Cool light show, which probably won’t come across on the audio tape. Tracks done on the fly so they are not perfect. The only thing missing is the encore applause. Enjoy. If you were there you understand the title.

The beginning of the Beatlesí second U.S. tour marked the start of their performing decline. Purple Chick discs: fan created and NEVER FOR SALE!!!
You know the drill. Just a little audio tweaking where necessary. Probably most noticeable in the Atlanta show.
Also, this might be the first time the Atlanta tape has appeared glitchless.

Recorded in the pit 3 people from front. I was standing in front of Nils / Soozie.
Not an ideal spot to record due to the hustle and bustle of being on the floor but this recording will suffice until a better one hopefully turns up
