This torrent is taken from disc one of the Jazz Door bootleg ‘Another Bitches Brew: Two Concerts in Belgrade’ (disc two to follow).

There are many fine recordings taken from this 1971 tour and this is up with the best of them, with the band in its usually fine form.

The recording quality is very good, although the mix is a little skewed and reverberant. Shouldn’t cause anyone any major problems though, I’ll give it a B+.

The original CD issued the whole concert as one long track. I’ve separated the pieces.

Details of the show can be found on Pete Losin’s Miles Ahead site: http://www.plosin.com/milesahead/Sessions.aspx?s=711103

Please note that, as with all the shows from this tour, Losin lists tracks 3 and 4 together as a single title, ‘What I Say,’ although I maintain they are two separate pieces (the first part does not appear on 1970 recordings of ‘What I Say’). Discographer Enrico Merlin has argued that the first part is a development of ‘What I Say,’ so I have banded these pieces separately and referred to them as ‘What I Say, parts 1 and 2.’

Enjoy!

John Lennon – Complete Clock Soundtrack

John Lennon
Complete “Clock” Soundtrack
(1971 St. Regis Hotel & Hotel Syracuse,NY CD 1) Green Grape

“Filmed one September afternoon shortly after the Lennons’ arrival in New York during their stay at the St. Regis Hotel, Clock was yet another attempt of Yoko’s at treading the same ground as Andy Warhol and his film works like Empire State, which simply presented the edifice of the famed New York landmark for 24 hours.”
(Eight Arms To Hold You, Madinger & Easter, p. 59) The movie starred a clock on the dresser in the Lennon suite tat was simply filmed in one take while an hour ticked by. The soundtrack consisted of JOhn busking through a repertoire of his favourite RnR oldies, as well as his newly written ode to his new place of residence. This is the most complete version that we have so far as compiled by Green Grape, half of the material is still unaccounted for.

Pink Floyd – London, England (02/06/71)

Pink Floyd
Royal Albert Hall
London, England
February 6, 1971

Total Time: 80:29

A good/fair audience recording, possibly the earliest from 1971. It’s not very common among collectors, so I thought I’d throw it up here. It’s incomplete (at least ‘Careful with that Axe, Eugene’ is missing, and probably ‘Set the Controls for the Heart of the Sun’), but it does include one of the few recorded versions of ‘Libest Space Monitor’, which serves as a lead-in to ‘The Embryo’.

Notes:

This is an excellent audience recording of the entire show.

Here is a description of this recording that was in Record Collector Nov 2000 issue.

If the Young Vic show revealed the Who in a period of uncertainty, by the end of the year, thanks to the success of “Who’s Next” and constant gigging, LA Times critic Robert Hilburn spoke for many by describing them as “The Greatest Show On Earth”. This Long Beach concert catches the band feeding off a rowdy crowd, prompting Townshend’s infamous outcry: “This is a fucking rock’n’roll concert, not a fucking tea party!” (this comment was later used to introduce the “Thirty Years of Maximum R&B” box set).

“Baba O’Riley”, “My Wife”, “Behind Blue Eyes” and “Won’t Get Fooled Again” have already become an integral part of the set, with “Tommy” reduced to just five songs. It’s a shame “Bargain” wasn’t retained, as the band always performed it dynamically – listen to the San Francisco version, taped three nights later and releaed officially on the box set for confirmation.

A quality audience tape resulting in this well-known bootleg (the title refers to the ocean-going liner) first appeared in early 1972, albeit edited to a single album. In 1998, the full show appeared as a Japanese double-CD, restored right down to the original TMOQ artwork.
